4 cyl camry turbo?

I was hoping that someone here has some info on turbocharging a 4 cyl camry. I am thinking of buying a used eclipse turbo and fabracating an exaust manifold, but I have some questions. How well can a 2.2l handle 5-7 psi of boost, would I have to use water injection to prevent knocking, could the stock efi put enough fuel into the air (would I have to re-program it) , and are there any other factors that could prevent me from doing this? (aka coolong, automatic tranny....ect)

Post this at the www.camryman.org or www.camryclub.org or www.toyotanation.com forums and you'll get a lot of responses...
As far as turbo for 5sfe, check out the above forums, plus these links:
http://www.poweredbytoyota.com
http://www.meisners.net/camry/
Also, RIPP Mods in NYC is already producing a bolt-on supercharger for the 4 cyl 97-01 Camry. Again, check out the above forums for more info...

NO......NO........NO.......NO!
For the turbo for the 5s-fe (ALL)http://www.poweredbytoyota.com/burientoyota/ssfeturbo.html
For the supercharger for the 5s-fe http://rippmods.com/products/products_list_details.asp?menuid=3&vehcName=Toyota+I4&vehcCat=Engines&vehcDesc=Toyota%20Camry%204%20cylinder%20Superchar ger%20Drive%20System&productId=82
I personally would prefer a Supercharger over a Turbo charger any given day. I don't know much about them, but I've heard 4 cyl cars can give off some nastey Turbo lag, as opposed to a s/c gives none.

SuperCharger Vs Turbo, can someone tell what is the difference and why each one is better is better for ther 5sfe engine.

there are two ways to spin the fins to blow more aire into your compression chamber. supercharger use pulleys to spin the wheel. turbos use the exhaust gases. Supercharger has instant power. turbos takes alil more time to spool but will go beyond what a belt driven s/c. if your boosting low psi you should have much problem.

There are many many many advantages to using a s/c over a turbo......Here are just a couple.
1) Maintenance S/C --NONE
2) Turbo requires you NEVER miss or go beyond oil change.
3) S/C makes more pressure based on rpm up to the blades efficiency point, and begins to add torque(increased pull) right from just above idle.
4) S/C components will last as long as you own your car.
5) Turbo will have issues with waste gate control, vacuum line attachment, exhaust gasket leaks and blowouts, boost pressure irregularity....etc.....etc...
6) when a turbo component ceases to work, your engine does not just lose some power it also stops running normally.
7) Oil changes on a turbo require that you FOLLOW AN EXACT priming procedure, before the engine is restarted.
--Good news is, depending on the kit, the company, and the performance level you move up to......they are ABOUT the same price.--
Any further info just let me know.
Good luck with your future endeavors
We have many customers at the shop who have gone both routes. We 'ALWAYS' tell the turbo cust's that it IS NOT a one shot deal they will require regular visits and awesome maintenance habits.
The bearing on a turbo is forced to turn 20-200 thousand rpm and SHARES it's oil with the all of the other engine components.

Get a 3sgte instead. It will cheaper in the long run. Need the harness and ECM as well.
