1990 tracker quit,mechanic says needs ignitor

I am being told I need an ignitor for my 1990 tracker - except the mechanic can't locate one -- any ideas ?

I don't know anything about an ignitor for a Geo Tracker. I think there's ignitors on Geo Prizms, but not on trackers. I've tried to find them online for your tracker and didnt find anything.

Scotty-- thanks for the quick response. In the manual it shows that ignitor ( also called the pickup coil I"m told) Chevy dealer says it's no longer avaialble so I'm looking for alternatives

Before you spend a lot of money on replacement parts get your ECM tested. 90-95 Trackers are notorious for burning them out. A failed ECM will appear to be all kinds of things from bad fuel pump, to bad injector, to bad "ignitor" (no such thing on a Tracker), etc. etc.

Most mechanics don't understand electronics and computers and will just throw parts at a problem until the light finally dawns. So have the ECM checked out by a shop that specializes in automotive computers for your own peace of mind.

I dont know about a 90 Tracker but my 94 Tracker has an ignitor on it. It is located underneath the coil. Mounted to the coil bracket with two screws.

i also have a 91 geo tracker that just wouldnt start one day. ive replaced the plugs, plug wires, distributor, distributor cap, rotor button and coil. everyone tells me something different. i was also told it was my pickup coil or ecm. how do i know which one to buy? mine is an auto 8 valve.97000miles. it acts like a broken timing belt but i just had that replaced.
