I have a 1997 Suburban (1500) and it is having problems starting up.

usually in the morning it will take about 5-10 seconds before actually starting. After the first start of the day it is usually starts up with no problems.

is there anything i can check or something that i should look into to get it to start up right away?

thanks

Check your fuel preesure (cold) with a tester. SHould be 60 to 66PSI.
Do a search there are many threads with testing procedures.

Here is thread that explains it quite well by MT2500;

Keyword for search is FUEL PRESSURE TESTING

There is a Schrader Valve on the fuel injector line (it has a black cap on it and resembles a tire valve stem principal)

Check with your local parts stores they may have one in their loan a tool program. (Checker, Autozone) If not Harbor freight has one reasonable price also parts stores have them for about $40.00.

If you do need to replace fuel pump use only AcDelco or Delphi fuel pump. Carquest now handles the Delphi pump

Feel free to ask more questions if necessary

How much would it cost to replace the fuel pump either through the dealer or a mechanic?

Fuel pump prices depend year and make on where you get them and the dealer or shop labor rate.
From 350.00 to 850.00 US $ is a good range.

But proper testing first to see what the problem is.
Low fuel pressure does not always mean the fuel pump is bad.

Also check tune up and fuel filter.
How many miles on the last tune up?
Good AC delco plugs?
