1999 sl saturn transimission leaking w/ high whinning sound

i have a 1999 saturn 186,000 the transimisson or something connected to it is leaking badly. it is accompanied by a a faint whinning sound not as loud as a bad belt.......if radio is on low you would never hear it. the noise is only during acceleration / traveling up to the next gear. if you level out the speed the noise seems to fade away. the leaking however is constant. the dripping and leaking is coming from and around the general area of the trani filter which we have already replaced. any ideas? is my trani toast? and if it is a bad trani, would i be better off putting my money into anouther car as appossed to fixing this one given the year and milage?

The leak is likely from the filter not being on tight enough for the gasket to seal. The whinning is likely to it being low on fluid.

Be rest assured that this transmission will not last long when not kept to specs.
