performance parts for a noob

Hey guys, i got kind of a weird request for some help here. i just bought a 1999 sunfire se 2dr 2.2l and changed the motor cuz the crank bearings were done. I am looking for some beginners performance parts to start off. Right now i dont want to aim very hi til i get a second car where i want to get up around 300 fwhp or more. The reason i am asking even though thousands of other speed freak noobs have already is that i am also a bit of a fuel economist too. i am asking for an opinion on what i can buy that could increase power due to making the motor more efficient instead of dropping massive gas guzzlers like force induction in there. i know freeing the engine flow from intake to exhaust would be my best bet but i feel that more gas goes with the better air flow and make economy worst. can you guys give me a hand.

You start modifying your car, your fuel economy is going to go down... end of story.
Intake and exhaust will help, but you'll be tempted to play a lot.
If your looking for fuel economy, leave your car the way it is.

i have been doing some research while i was waiting for a reply. all i can find is air filters like k&n and a more powerful ignition system to increase power and fuel economy. thanks for the input.

also, more efficient(better atomization)fuel injectors is better too.

It's a sunfire....
But i guess getting it bored (can u even bore a 2.2? lol) and alot of headwork will get some more horses.

boring it makes it uses more gas, i want to use the existing gas more efficiently.

Doesn't everyone? I guess an msd box would bring some efficiency with its multi-spark.

if your only gonna add performance upgrades that also give you better fuel economy, you're not gonna be adding much power at all, things like an intake, ignition system, and fuel injectors as mentioned above, all those things put together arent really gonna do shit unless you have something that makes them do shit, like a turbocharger for example, but then you're giving up your fuel ecomony
your kinda on a pointless mission here, you can have a very VERY little of both, or alot of 1
and if you go with the very very little of both, you're gonna spend more money on your parts then what you'll save on gas

I will probably go with the intake and ignition system for now and once i have the money i will get a turbo but set it up so that it doesnt change my fuel economy when i not using, thanks for the input. and by the way, multispark and longer sparks makes it worst not better. you want the shortest spark possible, look at nology and you'll understand what i saying.

how do you go about doing that?

Keeping it out of boost. G'luck with that, and you also need to run the highest pump octane you can find. 93, which right now up here in NY is 3.67/gal...
glad my boosted car is a toy and rarely comes out.

all you do is use a manual in-car shutoff that would force the wastegate to go wide open and uses a 2 way air bypass on the both sides of the compressor. wired to the same switch.

Won't work. You have to tune your vehicle to run a turbo charger and you do this according to a/f ratio. Unless you want to keep re flashing your car every time you want to go drive it. You go and wire in an always open waste gate and floor your car, its going to fall flat on its face and flood it self right out. Its going to be expecting all this air to mix with the fuel and its not going to be there to support the combustion.
