1992 Dodge Graand Caravan - backfiring/no power

My 1992 Dodge Grand Caravan backfires and has little power. I changed the oil, oil and air filters. I noticed the oil sensor next to the oil filter was broken. I replaced it. After trying to drive it, no power and backfiring. Change the plugs and wires. Nothing. Found one vacuum line broken, replaced it. This 3.3L V6 engine DOES NOT have an EGR valve! Had a mechanic confirm that. I then dropped the catalytic converter, and drove the car around the neighborhood. No change! (Very loud though). I changed the fuel filer - no change. Could it be the oxygen sensor?

Any suggestions?

Usually no power and backfiring indicate a problem with the resistance of the ignition coil.
A shorted ignition coil will cause back firing.
If the timing is too retarded, there will be no power.

How do you check the ignition coil?

Try this, (it is inexpensive), drop a couple of cans of water out, dry gas, HEET, etc (isopropyl alcohol) in the fuel tank, condensation in the tank will cause the symptoms you describe. This may not be the answer, but worth a cheap shot.

This sounds definately like a electrical fireing problem my first suggestion would be to see if your vehicle is timed right. Your timing chain could have jumped a tooth or you could have a cracked coil block. to check for a cracked block start your vehicle at night open hood and look for any blue sparks coming from around your coil block. And for your timing get your mechanic to check the timing.
