this is in stress release, since i am stresseed out at the moment, but i still dont know what to do.
i hate my college. its just like high school all over again. im taking classes that are a waste of time to me, since i came from an IB school(IB is harder than AP btw if you arent familiar). i took all IB classes, but diddnt take any of the tests. i thought it would be a good 'experience' for me in college. now, its getting to the point, where it seems most of my classes are a waste of time. lets start with math.
im in a remedial math class, math 95. its my fault that i feel alseep during the placement testing, but i dont think i should have to suffer all semester for it. for gods sake, we had a test today, i came in 10 minutes late, got my test. took the test and made sure every answer made sense as it was taught. i then turned my test in a whopping 15 minutes later, and i was the first one to finish the test. what sucks is that it is attendanced. cant miss more than 5 classes, or you fail automatically. i cant also take all the exams early, and get credit for the class.
now, off to ed psy 100. its a required freshman class. basically you plan out your time. we made a time master scheduale. we made 3 goals to have before the end of the semester. i just did a presentation on a way for test taking strategies. its easy, but boring, and i dont feel this is worth my tuition money.
english 101. i see that this class is graded differently, but i still dont like it. i was taught from ther Ib program on how to do all the things we are doing now. taking essays, intrepreting them, comparing them, etc. its just not interesting anymore. the work takes time, but its not worth it to me.
college reading 112. waste of time. read 10 pages about, restate what the passage was stating with a study guide that is made out for you already. you then get vocabulary words. ive only had this class 1 time, and my second ime is tomorro. its another required course, and i cant miss more than 2 classes. again, a waste of my tuition money. its like being in 8th grade english all over again.
surprise surprise, this university seems like a joke to me. so why is my hard earned money going towards classes that are a waste?
uw-milwaukee it is. i hate it currently.
damnit, and now i hate my laptop, as it tends to randomly go 'back' in the browser. cant stand that ish. i just edited this post a hell of a lot, and its all gone.
basically i cant stand uw-milwaukee. i cant remember ever being happy there. i like being in the union with others and playin pool with friends that i met before uwm, but thats pretty much my highlight of the day.
i cant even have a good day period. like it was ok to go to my classes, and i was happy for the most part, than the day got better saying i can leave my crappy job for a better one. but then something always ruins my day. weither it be family, friends, co workers, something always ruins it. i dont even know if i should be here. i dont think i was ever actually 'accepted' as a milwaukeean.
i want to just transfer, and pick up and leave, but i signed a lease for a year, so im stuck. im not quiting school, as i dont want to be another person stuck in a entry level job for the rest of my life.
idk what to do anymore. any takers?

Are these classes required for your degree?
How did you get put into all these "dummy" classes? Were you lazy or did you get shit marks?

You didn't answer any of my questions.
Suggestion - tough it out and stick with it. A degree is an invaluable asset in life.

Are these classes required for your degree?
the only class im taking for my mass communication major is com 101, which is into to interperosnal communication. that all changes next semester, as i basically get out of all the dummy classes, and actually learn something ;)
all of them are required freshman classes.
How did you get put into all these "dummy" classes? Were you lazy or did you get shit marks?
they seem like dummy classes to me since ive been in the whole international baccaloriate program. i cant even spell it lol. i got more work from high school, than from these classes, seriously.

looks like im going to have to stick it out for the most part. that is what my advisor told me that i saw today.

Go talk with an advisor and tell them the situation. Most universities have an advanced test-out program of some sort, perhaps you just haven't found it yet.

The university system of a core curriculum is designed to broaden your experiences and qualify you to be introduced as a Baccalaureate in your chosen field upon completion. You could always opt out and go to a community college or technical school and reduce your self, and your earning potential, to just being another nerd with an A.A. I like having the B.S. degree, along with the rights and honers it confers. Not talking down to you, it wasn't easy for me either, but at over 50 years of age it was less than 10% of my life so far and if all other things work out it will have been only 5% when all is said and done, and I'll have made a shit load more of money that you will if you drop out.

meeh, im thinking about not registering for spring classes, and go to the community college for liberal arts, then get into the interesting classes at a main university. and im dead serious.
i cant stand it. idk if its the school at the moment, or the fact that every girl that i have approached and had a convo with, was cool, and i got digits, but when ever i try to do something with them its some bull excuse like i got a boycfriend, or im too much into my classes.

One thing that can help you out GREATLY in college is to check and see if there is a site where students post up reviews about teachers on whether or not they do a good job, how they teach, if they grade strictly or not, etc. Ours is unounderground.com

Have you actually done to talk to an advisor at your college about your options? Or are you content to just complain about it on the internet.

The first year of college for any liberal arts major is going to be full of general education classes that almost every freshman gets dropped into. They usually serve as pre-reqs for classes that actually relate to your declared major. Why this format is so prevalent in univerities is unknown to me, but its my theory that the first two semesters are used to weed out the students that aren't serious about going to college. All the kids that enroll just to act like they're in the '13th grade' will either get their shit together by the end of the first year or be back at home living with mom and working at Wendy's til they're 28 and they get that dream job at the Best Buy customer service counter.
Seriously, it gets better. College is what you make it. After your first year, you set your own schedule and pick the level of difficulty of your courseload (as pre-reqs allow). I have friends that never went to college, some that dropped out, and many that finished. I can tell you right now, the ones that finished do not regret the 3 4 or 5 year grind.
On another note, maybe UW-Milwaukee just sucks. Milwaukee sucks, Wisconsin sucks... fact :p Transfer to another university. UW-Madison is a fine school despite the state in which it sits. Or you could go to UW-Osh Kosh with Danielle... that should be interesting

I think 00Accord got it right. When I first started college many many years ago, I was sorta undeclared but took math and chemistry classes in which I did poorly. I found out fast that taking challenging classes that I really wasn't ready for and wanting to party did not go hand in hand. And this was at community colleges. I'm certainly glad I didn't waste more money doing this at universities... I have enough financial aid to pay back from that... haha.
Anyway, once I got into the university and got into the 5 year program it took 3 more years to actually attain a BA degree in English @ 130 credit hours (about 35 actually transfered so I was a sophomore). I was 22 when I started the university schooling and didn't finish until I was 25. So I was a little older and was done fucking around... probably the reason I finished magna cum laude... Then I moved on to attain an MA which was more challenging and all the students in the Seminars (or shared senior level classes) were there for the same reasons... to do well. I didn't think I was going to be able to finish my MA working full time and having a relationship... not to mention a problem 944 to deal with... But I did finish and I think it has been one of the greatest achievements in my life. I may never be wealthy because of it but there is something about being university educated that makes a person more well-rounded...

some critics would say that it is because too much of the secondary education just isn't up to scratch so they need to make sure that it is covered.

Like the last 3 posters suggested. What do you expect as a freshman? Perhaps your frustration is in that it rather just advances your high school courses. Well, freshman courses do just that!!! You are in college, not high school, and colleges [for the majority part] take their student's education very seriously.
You don't get "handed" your Bachelor's, Master's, Doctorate. Thus, does it not make sense that your college is training you to advance by requiring certain courses? You state you are in remedial math, that's one aspect your college is trying to boost you.
Yeah, it seems like S.O.S. right now, but it is a teaching method to gear you to successful completion of a DEGREE, not some high school diploma. Hey, have some fun this year, meet some people, experience some easy freshman days. Take it easy, it won't come around again.
Yet, I suggest you take the classes seriously, even though they don't seem to give you any spark yet. I doubt another university or college will change the above facts.
It's your first year, absorb it, okay?

My thoughts also. Sounds like my cousin who decided to whinge her way through uni, only to be told at the very end that she should have aired her grievances years ago as the things she never sought to repair for herself now rendered her degree rather useless.
