Hey a friend of mine has a 96 tacoma with the 3.4L v6. He want to change his spark plugs. I was looking under the hood and could only find 3 (the ones on the driver side) where are the other 3? obviously they are on the other side, but i was looking and looking (granted it was getting dark) and couldn't find them. Also where the hell is the distributer? AHH i feel so stupid, this engine is so diffrent then any of the other cars i have worked on.

The plugs on the 3.4 are in the same place you found the other three. You will need a long extension to reach down into the plug wells in the head to remove the plugs. It also helps to have a piece of fuel line to fish the plugs out of the head. When the plug is loose just push the fuel line on the top of the plug and pull them out.
There is no distributer on the 3.4, that is why you cannot find it. Also, when replacing the plugs make sure to use the same twin electrode style plug that the factory uses. The engine will not like other types of plugs. Make double sure to stay away from the Bosch Platinum + series of plugs. They are prone to melting in the 3.4.

This link has instructions and photos of how to change Tacoma V6 spark plugs. Good plug sockets have a rubber insert to grasp the plugs for removal, they will also work for installation.
