I Bought A 1999 Isuzu Redeo Ls From A Small Car Lot In Va. Beach. I Only Test Drove It Around A Few Blocks. It Was Really Clean And Only Had 129k On It So I Bouht It With No Warranty. After Driving It Home About 20 Miles From The Beach I Heard A Click And It Felt Like The Emergency Brake Was Lightly Applied (sort Of Dragging). I Took It Back To The Guy And He Denied That There Was Any Problem That He Knew Of Other Than The Gas Guage Didn't Work. But He Took It To The Lcoal Aamco Transmission Shop For A Diagnostic Check And Came Up With A Clean Bill Of Health. A Mechanic Frien D Of Mine Said That It Was A Brake Adjustment Issue. I Checked All Brake Pads, Shoes, Rotors And Drums And All Looked Good. I Also Took It To A Local Brake And Muffler Shop For A Brake Inspection And All Came Up Good. Before Taking It On A Trip I Had To Make, I Broke Down And Took It To The Local Isuzu Delaership. I Told Them The Symptoms And They Said It Could Be 1 Of 3 Things . The Most Probable Being A Transmission Range Switch Which They Replaced For Over $450.00. I Drove It From Va. Beach To Wake Forest And Back For Over 360 Miles And Only Had A Problem Of Rear End Vibrating At Speeds Over 60 Mph. The Following Monday After Returning Home Coming Home From Work, I Applied The Brakes Rather Strongly And Heard A Click And Here The Problems Is Again. It's Like The Brakes Are Dragging And Won't Move Unlees You Apply The Accelerator. Anyone Out There Have Any Ideas For I'm All Out.

That's One Of The First Things I Thought Of. I Used To Have A 4-runner Which Had Many Of The Same Options But Nver This Problem.

please stop capping every word I can't even read it
you just need an accurate diagnosis from a reputable shop you are getting the runaround.
you probably need new calipers at least one

So you took it to all those places and no one could find anything wrong with it, except the dealer? What were the other 2 "possibilities" they mentioned?
What are the other symptoms? Did you run a Carfax before you bought it? Granted they aren't all that accurate, but it gives you some idea of its history. Did you go to a parts store to have the codes read just in case there is something stored?
**I'm surprised Aamco found nothing wrong..lol.

I thought exactly the same thing LOL.
Sounds like at least 1 caliper is hanging up, then eventually releasing. When it happens feel the wheel hubs after driving a bit and see if one wheel (or set of wheels) feels hotter then the others.

That is my guess too.

ok then thats three people who vote sticking caliper...time for brakes plus? you know they do a 4 wheel friction reline for 99.00 but thats only designed for parts that are designed to wear out so BOHICA
(bend over here it comes again)
also...AAMCO
all automatics must come out
lol

Stay away from that $99 deal. Numerous news stories have been done about that scam. I'm inclined to stay that it might be a caliper, but you said you hear a clicking sound prior to the "dragging" you feel.
You said you checked the brakes for uneven wear and might have greased the caliper bolts?

well i do my own work since I am going to school for this stuff
but if the guy is paying 400+ for a 30 dollar trans switch, we both know he's headed to brakes plus. besides, a caliper is pricey

this sounds like one of those mechanics' practice test questions, but let's give it a try -- okay, let's get back to your original symptoms/experience: and damn those initial caps...
1999 Isuzu Redeo Ls.
After Driving ...About 20 Miles...I Heard A Click And It Felt Like The Emergency Brake Was Lightly Applied (sort Of Dragging).
Lcoal Aamco Transmission Shop For A Diagnostic Check And Came Up With A Clean Bill Of Healt. [not the trans...]
[not brake components...]
Took It To The Local Isuzu Delaership. I Told Them The Symptoms And They Said It Could Be 1 Of 3 Things . The Most Probable Being A Transmission Range Switch Which They Replaced For Over $450.00. [not mode switch...but this was a bogus diagnosis from this information anyway, though it is hardly a $30 part....]
I Drove It ...Over 360 Miles And Only Had A Problem Of Rear End Vibrating At Speeds Over 60 Mph.
The Following Monday...I Applied The Brakes Rather Strongly And Heard A Click And Here The Problems Is Again. It's Like The Brakes Are Dragging And Won't Move Unlees You Apply The Accelerator.....[[and damn those initial caps....AGAIN]
i'm leaning towards an ABS issue. but more description about the 'click' might be helpful -- from where? what type of click? like a relay click?
and what about that rear end vibration? like a wheel out of balance? is that the first time you have had that vibration?
are you saying that when you applyl the accelerator, it's like the brakes/dragging are released at that point?
is this as intermittent as it seems here?
and finally, as asked previously, what were the dealer's other guesses, because that's all they are. and don't pony up $400 for guesses without some diagnostic time, it's fairly easy to check the mode switch operation.
and CEL codes?

Has anyone ever checked the emergency brake?
My Rodeo did this EXACT same thing 3 weeks after I bought it 10yrs ago, backing up, I barely applied the brakes, heard this pop/snap sound, a spring had busted and caused a dragging issue.

The vibration could be from the brake dragging. If the disk/drum was warped it would cause a vibration with a stuck caliper/p.brake.

Does it down shift when it slows down like that?
I could be low on trans fluid. Mine likes to blow out tranny fluid from a mistery spot, and it will slow down and down shift for no reason when I let off the gas; when it is low on fluid.
Many places don't know the proper way to fill the tranny fluid.

I'm leaning towards a faulty band control solenoid in the transmission, when this solenoid fails it does not always record a fault code in the ecu
