My friend was having a problem with her tiburon tranny.. I'll just paste what she wrote to me in a message, maybe one of you can tell me the problem?

it's a 98 hyundai tiburon fx with like over 120000 miles, so i jus think its crappin out.
when i drive it (i think its between gear 2 and 3)ill be accelerating and then it'll rev and i have to let go of the gas and it'll kinda putter n pop back into the lower gear and then i can accelerate again and it'll switch over.
so im not exactly sure whats going on with it..

Sounds like she's accelerating, and when it wants to change gears is gets thrown into neutral.. then it eventually throws in..

Manual or Auto ???

If it's manual it's probably the clutch

If it's auto then the transmission is near it's death.

I would agree with Jalmir - he knows his stuff

I have a '00 Tiburon and it's a manual 5 speed....my clutch went out and the reving you're talking about is the transmission slipping...means her clutch is going out.

If it's an auto....I would take Jalmir's advice

lol thx tiby00

I have an auto and it needs to be changed, my 2nd to 3rd gear change is slipping like hell, pretty much have to do the same thing, let go the gas until it stop slipping and then I can put my feet on the accelerator again, that's why I thought he had an AT, the description is the same! :)
