Disconneted Vacuum Line

'99 Windstar SE. Who knows where to connect the short red hard plastic line, that is connected to a one way valve, that is connected to a vacuum reservoir on the fresh air inlet assembly? More specifically, the fresh air inlet assembly is directly below the cabin filter, in the engine bay, on the passenger side. My HVAC only exits through the defrost vents. And my motor idles rough. I think these are related. Thanks.

Start the engine. You should be able to hear the vacuum leak.

My '96 is older, so things likely have been moved around.
From what you are saying, that line has to do with the vaccum source to work the diverters that direct the air to Defrost, Vent, Floor, etc.
If there is NO vaccum, then the air will go to the Defrost.

On my '96, there is a line that connects to the back side of the upper intake manifold, passenger side, that goes to the vaccum resevoir.
Then another line goes from the vaccum resevoir back to, and through the firewall.
My vaccum resevoir sits on the passenger side fender well, behind the AC "accumulator" aka "dryer", but just forward of the top of the strut.
The "cabin filter" was not available on the '96, so my landmarks are a little different.

But, in short, YES the problems are connected.

Thanks to those who commented and viewed. I resolved the problem as a matter of dumb luck. But of course I had to remove the cowl and wiper motor assembly to figure it out. And even then it wasn't obvious. I mulled around and probed for about an hour or so, to no avail. Then I took a break and went out and marooned my electric R/C airplane on top of the local elementary school. That is what they call insult to injury. So, anyway, I noticed a small hole in the left most vacuum hose connector to which I inserted the elusive red line. Success! Idle improved and air flow negotiates. I attached a picture because pictures are good and it might assist someone who may fall into a similar bewilderment. By the way, the airplane is still stranded on the school. Any suggestions?

Ibea22 I am sorry I did not get a chance to respond to your problem.. I have the same pic although your is far better I could have sent to you.. As far as your RC plane. Hope you get it down. I had a RC nitro plane I spent over 500.00 bucks for about 5 yrs ago.. I flew it twice. The 2nd time I crashed it. 500.00 bucks all over the field. My father -in- law as a 1946 Aero something a real plane. Now I fly the real thing for free. He just want let me take off and land..Not that i want too.. Not yet LOL..

It is good to hear that your windstar is working again.
For the Airplane, I would call the school, they most likely will be happy to help you out.
You don't want to go over with your own ladder and climb up there......or we might see you on the evening news, school surrounded by SWAT teams.....
