I have one of those in my '98 Burb. So, looking at the '98 C/K manual it could be called the "Water Valve Actuator" (Sub/Utility Only) or it could be called the "Hot Water Bypass" valve. My manual (genuine GM) doesn't give a clue as to what it's supposed to do.

As far as a part#, two things. Take your pic's to a chevy dealer along with your VIN and ask them. Go to http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/ , give them your VIN and ask what they can come up with.

Hope this helps and if you come up with a good explanation of what this thing does I hope you'll share it.............Steve

The name I am not positive, but it controls the water flow to the rear heater in your suburban. It is vacuum actuated and the lever opens a flap that allows coolant to circulate.Napa part number is H76454.I changed mine in July.

Heater control valve is what I referred to it as when I changed mine. Be careful pulling the hoses from the "Y" (splitter). It does become brittle from all of the heat and it is a dealer only part.
