01 Impala - Headlights stay on w/ key off.

Hello everyone. My aunt called me looking for help on her 01 Impala. After she shuts her car off, her headlights stay on. This is with the headlight switch 'Off', and the keys removed.

Second symptom is that while driving down the road, she hears a chime that she describes as 'the noise it makes when you don't put on your seat belt'.

I know these are crude clues to go off of, but any suggestions? All fuses have been checked; it was an unlikely cause, but the only thing she knew how to do.

These Impalas are equipped with lights that stay on for about a minute or two after the car is turned off. It's more like a security feature so you can see where you are trying to go in the dark. The lights should normally come on automatically when you turn the car on or put it out of park. I think all GM vehicles have had daytime running lights for about 10 years. As long as her lights cut off after a minute or two, I don't think she has a problem.

As far as the second issue, I would need more information before I could determine what that is. If she has her seat belt on and it still makes that noise, it could be whatever it is that detects if the seat belt is fastened or not is defective. Then again, it might be doing that to alert her to a problem with the car. Does anything come up on the instrument panel? When she buckles the seat belt does the seat belt light go off?
