Hi

Both front L&R seat move back and forth when accelerating or breaking. It moves just 1/8 inch.
It is annoying.

Any input is welcome.

Regards.

I am in the same boat as you are, see the thread I started

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=746360

I am going to pull my seats out and check to see if I can get to the drive unit. I check the parts cost online and it was high...you have to buy the entire rack the seat sits on I think.

I purchased the socket for the front bolts and had the one for the back bolts. No big deal to pull them out, someone told me not to move the truck once the seats were out or a airbag light goes off if it is disconnected.

I bet it is a worn bushing or something.
Keep me informed and I will do the same.

Ok I own yet this type of socket.
I'll pull them out this week-end.

Hey Christophe,
Could you tell anything? I was in a rush when I pulled mine out and had to put them back in before I was finished. I was unable to get to the gear drive system as of now. My sister needed to use my suburban as she blew the motor in her vehicle....she want to do what????? Anyway I should be getting my burb back in a few days and can start working on the seats again.
Keep me posted.
BTW, I had to pull the drivers seats out of my Porsche and BMW for a seatbelt code being thrown. The latches were bad in both within a month of each other....Do they say trouble is in 3's.
There is a group of Kitesurfers on a lake near my house.
Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma ... that looks like fun.
Take care.

I began to remove the passenger seat ... until my wife needed to use the Burb  . It's pretty hard. I ordered the Haynes Repair Book to understand how to remove the seats.

Yep fun and dangerous. I was in Denver last year (not very far from Ok. City) There's a lot of reservoir in Colorado used by kitesurfer. But wind is gusty in this place. I rided on Miami too were conditions are more steady.

Anyway, I return a post as soon as I have a correct answer.

Just got my suburban back. I am planning on pulling the seats this weekend. When I pulled my seat out it was easy. There were only 4 fastners holding it in. I had to move it to the rear to get to the front bolts and then to the front to get to the rear bolts and plugs for power to the seat.
Best of Luck. I will update as soon as I can.

Received the haynes book last week-end and the only advice is ... remove the 4 fastners :banghead:
BTW I'll also planning on completely pulling again the seats this weekend.

We keep in touch.

Come on, it's an easy fix. This is happening in my town car, but I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet.

Trenchwarfare, what is the fix? I think the hardest part is to get to the gear drive. Pulling the seats is not too bad. How do you plan on repairing your car?

Christophe, is 23mpg....wow the best I have ever recorded is 19.
Normally I get 15 or so and 16-18 on the highway. Wonder how much it would help to remove the roof rack? Plat 4 plugs is what I run in my other cars. Hmmmmm I might have some projects to do.

Yep 23 is amazing (It was on a trip to Saint Tropez on the French Riviera) but daily is 16.

Drop the 2 rack bars is easy. Remove the 2 plastic cover at the rear end and slide both left & right bars.

I delete also the radio antenna, not to get higher mileage :grinno: but because it broken.

Ok I dont get the EV1 cx

trenchwarfare : we are very interrest how you fix the seat problem

A few nuts and bolts needed tightening. I actually fixed it a couple of hours ago.

Bad news.
There is a powered worm screw inside track.
The seat is fixed by 2 nuts to a 2 inches long aluminium plate driving by this screw.
It seems the aluminium thread of the plate is worn.
I'm unable to remove it because of rivets.
This part is very very weak (fragile) dont tight it too much.

Anyway, any other fixes is welcome.

Christophe.

What do you mean unfixable? It's as simple as drilling out the rivets!

Ok, finally got mine suburban back.
I will try to pull it apart soon and see if I can build anything to help. I will post when I do.

Christophe,
Finally got some time and pulled one of my seats. I was able to remove the worm drive and clean out the Alum. bracket. There was a block inside of the bracket and I used a nylon washer (3/4 OD, 1/2 ID, 1/8 thick) and two rubber washers (1 inch OD, 7/16 ID and 1/16 thick). I cut down the rubber washers to about the size of the block and put them in the back and then forced the nylon washer in the front. Once the nylon was in place I used my pocket knife to flatten the washer so it would fit in the rail under the rivets.

First, remove the seats, unplug all fittings, lift seats out.
Second, remove the two bolts on the Alum fitting.
Third, move the rack so you can get to the rear worm bolt. You might have to move it back and forth a few times. I found a bolt at the rear of the track that the worm gear is attached to and removed it.
Fourth, Once you get the worm gear out measure where the alum block is in relation to the end of the unit. This will allow you to get it back where it was or close to it.
Fifth, put in spacers, if you have not purchased them yet take them to your local hardware store. I spent about $4 us on my parts.
Sixth, reassemble, the hardest part was measuring to make sure it was equal to the other side. Caution when working with the alum blocks they might strip out easy.
Seventh, remount the seat and test.

Best of luck, I will try to do the second seat soon.

Christophe,
Did you have any luck with your seat? I am thinking I will be selling my suburban. I bought my wife a BMW X5. I will miss the suburban but I am running out of garage space. Take care.

Rebuilt the drivers seat and it is solid now. Replaced the battery and drove it around. What a great vehicle. I think I will keep it and use it for a lake truck.
New projects coming.
