just purchased a 2005 beetle and when the top is down an alarm
sounds when taking off from a stop. The temperature display changes to the convertible top image and does not go away. Not sure what causes this, is the top not going down all the way? Can't really tell just by looking.

Hi!
Are you sure the top is really ALL the way down and finished with its folding process? On our 2003, it will beeeeeeeep at you and put the little convertible symbol up on the clock display if you begin to drive before letting the top finish its final steps of folding.
Try putting the top down and holding the "top down" button longer than you have been. Once the top is all the way down, the motors need to finish their travel and tuck everything in place. Give this a try (holding the "top down" button longer) and see if it works
If not, you may have a sensor out of whack somewhere. Ask the dealer to show you how to put the top down, they should do that for free. Then, if it acts up for them they might recommend you check it in for service.

Hi! I have a 2006 new beetle convertible, and it does the same thing. It is an automatic top, and I have held the button down alittle longer, pushed the top down when it was fully retracted (to see if it needed to "click in to place",
numerous hocus pocus..... it still beeeeeeeeeps for its 10 secs at 3mph. I do not have a dealership close by, any ideas what to do? Has any one else figured this one out??? Thanks for the help!
