Hello All,
I have been advised more than one way to repair the window. I am sure it is the motor, it has been moving from time to time but after last run up it has not moved, the clicking is there so i am sure the power is getting there. Question is do i have to replace the motor or the whole assembly. I only ask cause i was hit in the head for a sum of 600.00 :2cents: :2cents: :2cents: $ fan shroud replacement when only one of the 2 fans had bad bearings. was told by more than one it was a modular replacement:banghead: . Only reason i paid that was family was in other state. Also where would i go to find some good reading on how to replace this motor or does someone have a tried and true 12 step method.
Thanks for your time and know how.

I have a 2001 as well passenger window will work for a while then stop.. I use to take my door panel off and thump it with a hammer and it would work for a while.. If you ruled out switch its most likely the motor. You have to drill out some rivets and it hard to get too. I started on mine a while back but found I would have to do a lot of work to get to it easy so I put on hold for now. If I do it I will post back.I am going to cut some of the door inner metal to access easier.

There has got to be something better than cutting metal out? I have heard of the riverts been drilled out with some screws added in there place.

You do have to drill 3 holes.....I posted pictures that show the replacement process for my passenger side.
I bought the motor with the gear unit.....which is what comes out when you remove the 3 small bolts.
I also had to splice the 2 wires...as the connector on the replacement motor unit was different than the vehicle wire harness.
My passenger side window also still stops working......I remove the door panel....fuss with the unit....and it works......then stops.
I greased the heck out of all the slides, etc....and it still stops working.
The motor with gear unit is not real expensive.....I bought mine from RockAuto.
Regarding the radiator fans....FORD issued a TSB stating that the fans are to be replaced as 1 unit....and not the individual motors......due to ballancing issues with the fan blades...causing vibration and short fan motor life.
FORD does not carry the individual parts.
So you were told the correct information.
I looked up the fan assembly for your 2001 at http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=214072
It lists at $297.58, and they sell it for $160.69 plus shipping.
Of course you also paid labor, if you had it installed.
They have "motor" and "fan" in the list...but it comes up with N/A
Alldata lists the standard repair time for my 1996 at 0.7 hours.
I would guess that your 2001 would be similar in time.

When they built the car everything was put in as a unit.So I think the outer door skin was welded on after the unit was installed. No you don't have to cut metal. But I wont to do it quick and easy and trimming out a little peace of metal wont hurt a thing...Done this many times before...Why do you think some dealers charge up to 600.00 bucks to put them in.? Labor!!!

I replaced the drivers side motor in my 2001 winny. I bought the replacement motor (Ford rebuild) from Y2KFord.com. I think it was around $40. Once the door panel is removed you have to drill out three holes that are stamped on the inside door frame. They are more like a center punch mark. The service manual tells you what size hole to drill. It does not tell you what size socket the bolts are however and I do not remember. I do recall that I needed a thin wall socket. You have to hold the window up with tape when you removed the motor so it dosen't fall down. Comes out pretty easy and using a genuine Ford replacement motor it just plugged right back into the factory harness. I would say it took around 1 hour total.

I posted step by step pictures that list the size hole to drill, etc.
