Power seat loose

I am having a problem with our 2000 suburban. 130,000 miles and still doing great, except for the front seats.
It has power seats. When we stop, the passenger seat moves forward about an inch and then back. I am thinking something is worn out.

Seems like a few years ago I saw someone had this problem and have not been able to find the post.
Could someone please help?

Ok, I have spent some time looking at the seats.
There is a worm drive that powers the fore/aft movement of the seats. This drive is inside of the track with the motor outside in the front center of the underseat area.
Has anyone seen the inside of the worm drive. I do not have the socket to remove the bolts yet, but...
Can I take apart the worm drive and replace the worn parts?
Has anyone tried this repair or is it a replace only part?

Mine does the same thing, but up and down. My seat (the left front corner) can pivot up & down about 0.5 cm. It's the worm drive gear motor for the up/down movement.

Ok, I just pulled the seat, it took an e20 socket for the front nuts and a e14 for the rear bolts. Two small electrical connections on the bottom of the seat need to be disconnected. I tightned the two bolts on the bottom and put it back together and it still moves around.
It must be in the worm drive part. I will have to take it apart another day and see if I can get to the worm drive on the seat rail.

Someone please help with this problem! There have been no comments in more than a month. I have the same problem. My Chevy dealer said the fix is a part costing over $1,500. Surely there is another way??

You may be able to replace the worm drive asembly with a used one from a junkyard. Those things usually have to replaced as an assembly since they are typically greased and sealed at the factory...saves a whole lot of time too.

I can't speak from specific experience, but if you can find what the looseness is caused by inside that assembly, it may be a simple fix or not. Just depends on how much time you want to spend on it and how easy it is to open that sucker up. Good luck!

Thanks for the response, however discouraging. Looking around the net, it appears difficult to remove and inspect the seat assembly and power mechanism - much less the worm drive. I may have to live with it or sell the vehicle.:mad:
