removing #74 lamp sockets on instrument panel...

How does one remove the small Int. panel lamp sockets for the indicator lamps on our instrument panel? The illumination #194 lights just screw out counterclockwise, but the small ones just don't budge. Any experiences with this. I've got a loose connection/bad bulb on the check engine light (service engine soon) and would like to swap out bulb.

Are you sure about pulling straight out? I'm not talking about pulling the bulb out of the socket. I'm talking about getting the socket/bulb out of the small hole on the backside of the instrumental panel. The 194 bulb/sockets just screw out. The #74 bulb/sockets also screw out of the HVAC controller too. The ones in the instrument panel that light up the indicator lights (e.g. parking brake, security, ABS, etc.) look like the socket base is just a little different????
