New on the Board,Got a question about my front brake disks(rotors). There's some vibration/shaking when I apply the brakes, worst at high speed stopping. Are the rotors easy to take off and replace? How expensive are they? I was told they have to be turned on the car.Put new pads on about 1 year ago. It's a 92 accord lx,,thanks for your help.

your rotors sound warped, if you diddent turn them when you replaced your pads a year ago, they need to be measured to see if they can be turned, if not they need to be replaced.. jsut go to a shop and have them turn rotors and you will need to replace pads again....

Yes, sounds like you have warped rotors. Problem is, for quite a few year models (I know for sure 90-94) they put the type rotors that need to be turned on the car (if they are still thick enough to be turned). If they are not thick enough, prepare for a pricey brake job! I just had a 90 model Accord, and it costed me $200 (and I had my own parts) to get the job done.

I replace my rotors with slotted ones. It cost about $65 a rotor. My labor was free since I did them myself. All I can say is that it wasn't easy, if you're not familiar with the removal.

In order to change the rotors, you'll have to remove the whole assembly from the car. That's all the way to what's called the steering knuckle. There were 4 torx bolts holding the rotor to the back side of the steering knuckle. I replaced them with regular bolts, so that the next time it would be easier to do.

You will have to press the rotors away from the steering knuckle. Then have the correct rotor pressed back on. This is easy once you've removed the steeering knuckle. The hard part is removing everything that connect it and reinstalling everything again. I guess it just time consuming. If you choose to replace them have patience, and try not to bust anything up taking it apart.

Good Luck
