looking for some help from the chevelle brotherhood regarding a motors worth.
I have a recently rebuilt 396 motor and need the chevelle folks to give me a idea on what the engin is worth.
Block casting # 3855962. fresh less than 500 miles .040 bore.
heads casting # 3872702 oval port 427 heads intake 2.190 exh 1.880.fresh.
crank # 3882849.
dimple rods.
gm oval port aluminum manifold.new
holley # 3247.new
all the upgrades,lunati mild cam,crane roller rockers 1.7,milodon oil pan,hi torque mini starter. all parts are new.

That 1966 engine block sounds like a good one. It's for a manual transmission car - probably a Chevelle or a full sized car. Those heads were used on both 396's and 427's, and .040 over means it's still got some life left in it if everything else checks out OK. The crank is for a 427 but I don't know which year.
As for value, it has been altered a bit so it's no longer pristine. But to an owner of Chevy built in 1966 who needs a date-correct engine, it could be worth up to maybe $4,000 depending on the market? My best guess.
If I had a '66 Impala SS or Chevelle SS, or even an early production 1967 model - I'd love to have that engine between the fenders!
Why are you asking about it's value? Do you have this engine and no car to put it in? Or too many projects, and not enough money to get them all done?

thanks for the response.just trying to get my 64 vette back to where it should be.as you start getting older the need for power and speed starts to become less of a demand.I did just sell the motor for 4500.00.the guy got himself one hell of a deal.one of the best sounding and running 396's i ever heard.v

I just talked to a guy today with a '66 Chevelle with a similar 396. He was running that motor in it until he got the original one for that car built and ready. He said he'd have almost 5,000 into it by the time he finishes. So I guess your buyer did get a heck of a deal.
