'93 Suburban Won't Start

My problem sounds similar to the '99(?) that is hard to start in hot weather, but not exactly. I can go out in the morning and the Suburban should start right up. Let it sit for a while, and it will just crank but not start. Maybe a few hours later, or if it's cooled off, it will start again. It seems similar to a prior problem when our fuel pump died a few years ago. This pump (while here at work and not able to check the receipt date) should only be 3-4 yrs old, and less than 60k miles(?). We don't drive the Sub much any more, as we have other vehicles now, but it is our tow vehicle, and I'd like to be able to drive it. What tests should I do? I can't check fuel pressure (no gauge).

Should I hear the pump? Where is the relay? Where should I start?

Welcome to AF. You need to check for spark when this occurs, if good, check if the injectors are spraying..all basic diagnostics.

Your '93 and a '99 are worlds apart. If it comes down to fuel pressure (and I don't know what that should be on a '93) and you need to change the fuel pump please go with an AC/Delco pump.

You should definately hear the pump run for a couple of seconds when you turn the key on.

I understand they are different. Vortec/ high psi fuel injection, etc, compared to tbi. But the situations are similar. I was hoping that the situation was something that would spark an idea of a common problem that maybe I could start with. Problem is it is only intermittent. SO I need to wait for it to act up again to try and diagnose it.

Rent a guage from an auto parts store. Test fuel pressure.

Okay, we have not been driving our Sub much in the last year, so diagnosis is harder. Most of the time it will start fine, so getting it to have the problem sometimes takes time. Anyway, we have not tried much lately because it starts, but Saturday it started but when I went to put it in gear, it died, and would not start again. It will crank, but will not start. My wife was near, so I had her turn the ignition on, and I could hear the fuel pump running. I could probably go out there now (Tuesday), and start it. We have not driven it in a couple months for this very reason. If I go out now and start it, I can't diagnose anything with it running. I'm looking for suggestions. If I towed it to the shop in town, they'll charge a couple hundred just to try and diagnose the problem, and try and duplicate the problem. All this before fixing the problem. So if the pump is running (when it won't start), am I to assume the relay is also fine? What other condition could cause this intermittent problem?

Thanks
