2007 New PT Convertible - in town 12.5 - 15 mpg ??

I am hoping this in-town mileage is a "break-in" issue, as I have been told by dealer. I am told that after 500 - 3000 miles, I should see the mileage improve.

What is up with this? The window sticker clearly states averages between 21 CITY and 27 HWY.

I am trying really hard not to have buyer's remorse.

Cute car... first car we have bought on a whim - just to have a fun car.

Are we going to see an improvement or be disappointed with our purchase?

Any suggestions for tweaking engine to get better mileage?

Thanks,

Bill

Hang in there, its a great ride, and the mileage will come up.
I recommend a semi-synthetic oil for the PT, I use it in mine and really notice the difference. You can get it done cheaply at Super-Walmart for $29.00
Take a trip and maintain 65mph for at least 1 hour, break-in is important, but just as important is maintaining freeway speed for rings to set. They say they are pre-broke in, but experience says that is not true. You will have a happier engine if broken in at speed.

I have friends with the convertable, and they love them. Expect around 25mpg in town and 30 on long trips. Against the wind long trips....27 mpg.

I love mine, and admire the convertable.

Enjoy....

Thanks! I am encouraged!!

For now it has been a guilty pleasure... thinking it would be an economical alternative to our Town and Country, which I have now taken to driving to work, and the PT has become the run around town car.

Cool... looking forward to the better numbers.

I've got a 2002 PT Cruiser that I regularly get close to 30 MPG out of her. I have heard others say that the break in period is rough on the gas, but after that period, it is smooth sailing.

I use mobil1 in mine, and it still runs like new. We also had a T&C, and beyond a doubt it is better on mileage than the T&C. Good luck with your new "toy"
