336 & 351 Codes

My wife's 99 Rodeo shutdowon yesterday after she pulled up at a junction. The check engine light came on. Shortly afterwards she got it started (after a hard start), moved a couple yards then it died again. It has 3/4 tank of gas. She left it to cool off for about 45 minutes and restarted with no issues. I arrived on the scence and drove the care around -no check engine light engine sounds fine.

My wife drives about 4-5 miles, attempts to go around a corner adn and the car dies again. I arrive on the scene shortly and this time the car is turning over, starts occasionally, but as I attempt to put it to drive or reverse it shuts down. I noticethe rpm are 500-700; normally its around 850-1100rpm. I let the car sit for about 30 minutes adn it restarts.

I instructed my wife to drive home at about 35mph. made it home but it died as soon as she stopped & the Check Engine Light came back on. I got it to restart and I plugged in my code reader which indicated 2 codes:
1. 336 Crankshaft Position Sensor A low Range Performance
2. 351 Ignition Coil A Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction
Subsequently after this these codes did not reappear but the car hard starts. My wife drove the vehicle today with no problems. I know it's gonna died again.

Help needed, also where is the crankshaft sensor located? Thanks!

The sensor is held in by a 10mm bolt and you have to loosen 2 brackets that hold the transmission cooler suply and return lines. Since the sensor was in for a while, ('98) you'll have to tap or slightly pry the sensor out. Otherwise it was pretty easy. I didn't even have to raise the vehicle using jacks. I had decent clearance to work under the Rodeo.

The problem this defective sensor caused is scary since the vehicle shuts down-steering is heavy and the brakes don't work well. I suggest anyone that has this problem get it rectified asap! Thanks again.
