1/12 Scale `69 Z28 Camaro finished pics!

Here are the pics of the `69 Z28 I finished. I think it is a very accurate and detailed kit. *NO* details were added to the kit. It comes with all the wiring and hoses. I still have some detail to do to it, but I know some of you wanted me to post these pictures today.
The finish was done with about 7 coats of black duplicolor laquer, then wetsanding, followed by 5 coats of clear duplicolor. I wetsanded again and then applied 5 more coats of clear. It was then wetsanded once again and rubbed out. One thing I found is that you need to start with a coarse compound and follow with something like Tamiya`s compound to get all the scratches out on a black finish. Since this thing is over a foot long, it was a bugger to rub out. Zaino polish was used, about 4 applications. This stuff is absolutely the best!!! I highly recommend it. It is higher quality than anything from meguires and the like. The decals were not fun as some of you already know. I widened the tires using the tires from another kit. I cut the tires into a 2/3 and 1/3 part on all eight tires ( from both kits), and glued all the 2/3 parts together to make them wider. Let me know what you think:

More incredible work from you Hawk, this one is simply stunning!

I'm not a huge fan of muscle cars but the Camaro is quite possibly my favourate of the breed, give me one of those over a 'stang any day! I salute you on an awesome all round job!

Killer Kamaro! :D Looks like your decal problems were resolved in the end! I need to build me a 1/12 model one day. I had heard of Zaino waxes before, which ones did you use? (I think Z-5 is the one that brings out the shine.)

Thanks for all the complements guys. I used Zaino Z2 for clear coat finishes. I was out of the Z5, which is the gloss enhancer. This stuff works great and doesn`t streak. According to Zaino, their polishes are 99.99% optically perfect (clear) which is why the give the better "wet look" on black over the other polishes. On other message boards I`m on, people swear by this stuff.
Another note: if anyone builds this kit, you want the rear suspension high as possible, so choose the "strip" option for the rear suspension.

And one more important note!! You may notice that I used the ultra bright chrome bare metal foil. This is the second batch of this stuff I worked with, and never will again. I will stick to their regular chrome. The ultra bright stuff is thick an brittle, and doesnt stick. I had a terrible time with it.

Looks real!

I hear you on the bare metal foil...I only use the original stuff. It buffs out like real chrome, using the same polishes as the paint. Do it this way and it's far more realistic than their Ultra Bright garbage. Never could get it to stick, same as any of their other colors. Only the original stuff for me.

I must quote Mike on that.....I'm drooling, looks very nice. How big is that (396?) in a normal 1/25 Camaro? You could make a nice drag car with a 1/12th. It looks real.......:bloated:

Its all been said already...THAT IS FRICKIN FANTASTIC !!!!
My favorite of the Camaro's

The under bonnet is what amazes me the most...the carbs are spot on in colour and also a very interesting set up for them.

The colour and gloss is 10/10 and the trim work is flawless.

Hawk...that is one VERY VERY fine piece of work

Thanks again for all the complements! I`m kinda surprised since most of you guys like the imports.
The engine is the rare 302 cross-ram setup rated at 290hp (more like 350-400 realistically). I think it`s cool that Monogram picked this setup instead of a more traditional one. From what I understand, this was a very high revving engine made for the Trans Am races, and it didn`t have much torque off the line.
I`m not sure where I`m going to store this. I can`t find a case big enough for it. :(
