For anyone with the 2WD Suburban: Is there any big disadvantages of the 2WD vs. the 4WD Suburban? Does the 2WD handle pretty well in snow and ice?

A lot has to do with driver ability and a good set of winter tires IMO. I own a '94 C1500 2 WD (pickup) and it handles great in the snow and ice. My area gets up to 200'' of snow in a season and I never had a problem navigating the roads. I've been driving in the stuff for 23 years and consider myself experienced. A good set of snow tires is also important as the aggressive thread cuts through the snow and allows you to have better control on the road. In my travels in the winter it is amazing to see how many 4 WD and SUV are in the ditches and off the road because the driver's think since they have 4 WD they can go through anything and drive 70 mph when 45 to 50 is more appropriate. Ti me it gives them a false sense of security. A big disadvantage of 4WD is the cost to maintain the vehicle in both parts and service over a 2 WD:2cents:
