I have a recently purchased a 2002 Olds Alero. I noticed the heater blower motor only works on high and not the lower settings. Quite annoying actually. So I picked up a used switch from a wrecker, changed it, and the replacement switch does exactly the same thing. Also my service engine soon light is on. I haven't had the codes scanned yet, but is it possible the 2 are connected? I've read in some forums that the ignition switch can be the problem. Will that really prevent the blower motor from working on lower settings?
Thanks
Thanks

It is your blower motor resistor, if the fuse is good.
Has nothing to do with your Service light.
Here is the procedure for replacing the resistor, it says its for the Grand Am but its all relavent to your Alero.

You will have to have it scanned to find out why the Service light if on .

Thank you Sir. That fixed the blower motor problem. Now I can enjoy the lower settings. The part cost about $35. and about 30 minutes to replace.
Thanks again. Cheers
