I have an Envoy 06 that will not start. My husband tested the starter and found it was fried. Put in new starter and truck still won't start. After two days of testing, finally think we diagnosed problem. The under the hood fuse box is receiving 12 volts but not putting 12 volts out to the neutral safety switch and from there to the starter. Called GMC and was basically told because the vehicle was 100 miles over the 36000 mile warranty, it was my problem. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem and if they think buying a new fuse box will fix problem. Thanks.

P.S. Have 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix that has had major electrical problems starting about 38000 miles. After talking to GM today, have decided never to purchase another GM product EVER!

Hi....Thanks for the welcome. I just went and checked and the security light goes out when I turn the key. We also just put a new fuse box in and it did not change anything.

No power to the starter on cranking, correct? There is a relay in the under hood center that the BCM commands when the key is in the crank position. This of couse will happen if the BCM sees the trans is in Park.

The fuse box under the hood came with new fuses and relays today. Is this the relay you are talking about? Also, when you turn the key to the crank position, nothing happens. (No cranking of the engine.) My husband somehow bypasses something and gets the engine to crank but starter will not engage. I know very little about cars but it sounds like a ground to me?

Without being there and checking the circuitry with the aid of a wiring diagram, this is almost impossible to resolve in this venue. As I said the bcm signals the starter relay to engage, after the ign switch is turned to the crank position and the bcm sees it is in neutral, sorry.

Thanks anyways. My brother-in-law had a GM mechanic who owes him a favor come in look at it. He said our wiring diagrams had something missing and he will be back tomorrow with a complete set. He thinks it is a broken wire somewhere and he thinks he can fix it. I hope so. Thanks for trying to help. We appreciate it.

It's fixed! The problem was the ignition.
