so i just picked up this 1999 5.7L GMC K1500 suburban about a 5days ago. been driving it alot put about 250 miles on it. tonight on the way home from work. i was cruising along in 3rd gear going about 65 on the freeway just getting a feel for how it was going to feel towing in 3rd and what not. started to hear a noise but was not sure where it was coming from b/c it would come and go. so i pulled off the exit and i could not hear it at idle but when i took off from the light i could hear a lil knock agine. so i parked it and now im home.
some history on the GMC, mileage is 124xxx. it has recently had new AC delco plugs, wires, cap and rotor. new fuel pump along with new intake manifold gasket. bought the car used one owner b4 the car lot got a hold of it.
i bought this to tow my cars around to different events, i was about to hit the road this weekend to Pittsburgh PA. so at least it happened close to home.
what route would some of you guys take to repair this issue. would you pull the stock engine and just do an overhaul or would you jsut try to find a new motor set?or could i get away with getting some new bearings put back in it if the crank/and rods are not scored up ?
is their any good places to get a motor set from via Internet?
some input would be greatly appreciated
thanks.

Welcome to AF
Are you sure it is a rod knock?
What are the oil pressure readings?
Can you short the knock out by pulling plug wire?
If it has throwed a rod I would go another engine.
If you need a engine your GM dealer has one of the best deals on new engines and at a good price.
Warranty has been upped on the to.
I am not sure but it is up from 50k to 75 or 100K

not 100% it rod knock. thats what i dont under stand. i had good oil pres. and the oil level was fine. it was like 3am last night on the way back from work so i just jumped to my first thoughts b/c i have had this problem in the past with my other cars. im going to look at it more today. im hoping it was something stupid like spark knock or something else. some one said water pumps can make these nosies also when their going out. so might check that. any suggestion?

took it to local shop, diagnosis they said it was a wrist pin.
