Seriously, they smell bad if they have rubber components.
I have bought many products from Walmart, Canadian Tire, and Toys-R-Us that are made in China.
All of which appear to be well made, are quite inexpensive, but they all have rubber components which reek of something like my moldy sneakers and rotting skunk carcasses.
This includes the rubber tires on my new hand cart, wheel barrow and my son's tricycle. Also other rubber bits stink too, like the rubber hand grips on my new barbeque tools.
These things sting so bad, I have to leave them in the garage. If they are in my home or car, they stink so bad it's intolerable, even after 2 full years!!
The most frustrating thing is that often there is NO alternative. The only products of their type are the stinky Chinese stuff!!
And while I'm at it, I bought some Chinese made shaving razors that were FAKE!!! My Chinese weight scale which broke after about 50 uses.......and I am not very heavy..........And don't get me started on other stuff, like that huge shipment of adulterated Chinese grain which ruined hundreds of thousands of cans of pet food and other animal feeds recently..

amen. it's hard to find GOOD products these days. If you do actually find them the price has shot up! I don't have a problem with foreign electronics though, they seem to be ok...well at least certain brands.

In Chicago, there's a bunch of fake Colgate floating around in thrift stores around the city that's poisoning consumers. They say its laced with antifreeze. The news story said you can identify the contaminated tubes by the chinese lettering on the back and the chinese family on the front. :icon16:

There's a very simple answer - STOP BUYING CHINESE MADE RUBBER PRODUCTS.
The basis of the Asian Economic boom is the fundamental idea that "cheaper is better". As long as Westerner's keep buying this cheap crap, the boom will continue and quality will stay the same (pathetically low).
If you start voting with your feet (well, wallet) and send a clear message that you'll pay a 5% premium for a product of reasonable quality, the sooner they'll start lifting their game.

You get what you pay for. That's just how business works.

it's actually worse than you might think; google fake eggs for something really quite scary. Then there was something about a type of fish that was mis-sold when was in HK last year, then the thing about seafood from China in general, then something was wrong with the vegetables, then it was something about pork....
Cheap is one thing, downright illegal and unscrupulous and dangerous is another.
