Hello All. This seems to be a problem with all chevelles. The Rear window edges rust out. Has anyone tried repairing this? The glass and auto body folks won't touch it. Thanks for any replys.

I've seen it done in a restoration shop on an Impala. The window has to come out, so does the inside trim and headliner has to be dropped down and tucked out of the way.

The shop formed replacement pieces on the premises, tack welded them back in and made sure the window fit back into it. Once it was welded in place and dressed up, it looked great.

I don't know if replacement sections are available, your best bet would to find a donor car and a good shop that can make the pieces if you can't find them. Check Hemmings for possible replacement pieces.

It is definately a problem on most Chevelles. I have found some patch panels online (Goodmark, Harmons, OPG) for the lower corners of the rear window. The problem with the deterioration is the damage it can cause on the lower areas of the quarter panels. I would also check the same areas in the filler panel and around the back window(especially on cars with vinyl tops) for pinholes and other deterioration. I am restoring a 68 chevelle and had to resort to full replacement quarters due to this issue.
