3 Rings of Death!!!

So I just bought Guitar Hero 2 for my 360, and it just crashed, showing the 3 rings of death. :banghead: good news is that Microsoft is replacing it for free, but not for 4-6 or even longer because of the amount of broken boxes. I'm thinking about just buying a new core system and selling it as soon as mine gets back. I dunno, I'm pretty Fn' pissed. Just needed to vent a little I guess.

it seems like there may be a connection between guitar hero and the 360 crashing. I have read a lot about the 360 crashing (since i sort of want a new system just don't know which one yet). I have heard numerous times that once people start playing the guitar hero the 360 crashes. maybe it was just coincidence, but i dunno

I'm so glad my hobbies don't involve me sitting in front a flashing screen for hours with a little controller in my hands playing completely aimless games.

They will probably give you a new system. Just keep your HDD when you send it in and they send back a premium so you get another HDD

Agreed, it's not like I spend my life doing that, I play soccer, and raquette ball and stuff all the time. It is just when I'm bored I play some video games. And I still think xBox is better that PS, when playstation had the issue with thier consol, tough Shit.

They said not to send it back and they won't be sending another HDD. too bad though. :(

Gears of war also is a common game I hear that leads to the 3 rings of death.

One big reason why this is is because when the Xbox overheats, the solders on the CPU and the GPU come undone or something (Microsoft uses crappy welds) and heat resolders it back to the board. That's why some people try the towel trick and it works for a couple days at best. If you can't get it fixed for free, you could fix it yourself by buying a heat gun and spend about two hours of your life (some of it is waiting time). I guess it's a gamble cuz my roomate hasn't tried it on his "3 ring 360" yet, but there are people who have tried it with success. Success means you spend 10 bucks on the gun instead of whatever cash you spend taking it back or buying a new one. There is a good video on youtube, I'll post it later.

Anyway, this is the big reason why I no longer am considering a 360. The only games i'm really intertested in is the good 'ol EA games coming out in the next few months (Madden, NASCAR, NBA, Tiger Woods, etc.), GTA IV, and Gran Turismo 5 (probably in two years), all available on the PS3.

I'm so glad my hobbies don't involve me sitting in front a flashing screen for hours with a little controller in my hands playing completely aimless games.
I totally understand your feelings, but not all of us waste our days/life playing video games for hours and hours. The people that do overwork their consoles, leading to results like this.:p

so, is everyone still saying that the xbox 360 is soo much better than the PS3?
I dunno why anyone ever said that. My roomate got a 360 a little over a year ago, and I never saw a PS3 in action until I went to a Sam's Club and they had one hooked up to a big ass HD TV and both systems look really really good if you ask me. Both are also gonna have their issues with failures/problems, possibly forever. Sure, they could make it last if they really wanted to like the good 'ol days, but doesn't make sense business-wise. Nowadays, it seems the corps. gamble that you're willing to dish out the cash to fix it or get another, which kinda works.

Over 5 years with 80% of my posting happening at work, do the math.

Maybe I should worry about my boss finding this post before my next performance review :icon16:

I too do not spend my time playing video games. But I can certainly understand why you'd be pissed after spending all that money to have it crap out on you. With my luck, I feel like I'd have this happen if I purchased a new game system. To me it's not really cost effective. Although, I have had great luck with my PS2... probably cuz I never use it except to watch DVDs.

PS2 + DVD + Gaming = eventual breakdown. The PS2 has trouble when it has to constantly go back and forth between game reading speed and dvd reading speed so as long as you stick to one or the other you'll avoid the super premature PS2 burnout and you can just wait for the ordinary premature burnout

Haha... Freakray must be as bored as me. I bet you're in the BB&T building. j/k

I never play games really and I've had my PS2 (thick one) for like 3 years. Honestly, I haven't used it lately because I'm trying to get my money's worth out of Charter Cable (which is virtually impossible)...

Had my thick PS2 for about three years also. Mostly used for games, used for both movie and games for the last 6 months and now solely for games again. Doesn't read burned cds all that well, but otherwise still working great. Surprised it hasn't let me down yet.

I do have a Wii wich is sweet. But an update they already have shipped it back to me, so they must have really staffed up for this huge problem. I'm guessing by how fast this was that they are just sending me a new consol.

Damn, I hope not, I play that game quite a bit.

If overheating due to overplaying is the issue, wait till Halo 3 comes out...

I think I might end up getting the cooling fan add on before that happens. Anybody know if that actually works?

My friend just got a cooling fan and he said it seems to be working out. He doesn't have guitar hero though so I'm not sure what other games have been known to cause overheating

I think they just get hot and the sodder* comes apart. Mine didn't do it until I bought guitar hero, and I play gears all the time, so i don't think it's that so much.

it completely random. Its just that everytime one breaks the person just blames it on whatever game they're playing. I had to send my 360 in back around march due to it not ready discs anymore. Havent had any issues with the one they sent back and its been on alot this summer.

I had a ps2 back in their time. Had 3 of the thick ones shit out on me. Just threw it away after the 3rd time, then i bought the slim when it came out and never had any problems with it. Ill stick with the 360 though. Has an awesome assortment of games and a bright future.
