Replacing Door Bushings, 99 Suburban

The driver's door on my 99 Suburban hangs a bit lower and doesn't close/open well at the striker. I was told that after years of wear, the sheer weight of the door wears out the "bushings" up at the door-post hinges. At least one mechanic also told me that self-replacement of these was unwise due to how heavy and cumbersome the door is. Is that really true, or could I replace these myself... and if so, can you link me to the "how to" info?

I have done mine many times. There is a door jack that will support the door once the pins have been popped out.Body shops would have this or a rental shop may have one.I have also used rope and a come along hooked to a beam or a tree branch.you should then disconect the wiring to pull the door further away. This gives more room to pop the bushings out.It is time consuming.but if you have the means to support the door once the pins are out, itcan be done.
