Hi everyone! I'm so grateful to find this forum! http://www.tahoeforum.com/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif
Here's the story- a family member (trustworthy one, http://www.tahoeforum.com/images/smilies/yesnod.gif ) has offered us their 2002 Yukon for $6000. It has 137K miles on it and has nothing wrong with it at all. The AC compressor was just replaced. He's only had to have it in the shop for the AC and one other problem years ago. He still loves the truck, but found another one that caught his eye and bought it w/out asking his wife - http://www.tahoeforum.com/images/smilies/eek.gif so now he has to get rid of it.
Would you buy it?
We're looking for a reliable family car and were all set to buy an older Sienna until this offer. I know it's been a good car for this family member, but I'm afraid because of the high mileage it's going to start having a boatload of problems in a year or so. We typically drive a car until it's got well over 200K miles.

It sounds like a very good price...figure trade-in value at a dealership would be in the $8000 range with a dealer trying to sell it for around $10k. What trim level is it? Cloth/Leather, two or four wheel drive?
It's probably not going to go 200+ thousand miles without a hiccup. I'd wonder about the transmission and fuel pump but, at that price, I'd definitely consider it. Figure $2-3000 for the tranny and around $700 for a fuel pump replacement. There really aren't a lot of common (expensive) problems with these vehicles but, like any older/high mileage car, it's the little things that will sometimes nickel and dime you to death. Have a mechanic check it out, it's worth the $100 or so that they'll charge.
For your budget, figure on 14-16 mpg and about $60-$70 to fill up at $3.00/gallon.

I have a 2001 SLT with leather, tv, sun roof, all the goodies and I think it is worth about $12,000 so I think your family member is doing you a great avor for $6k.

I have a Yukon that I bought for $9,000 about three years ago and I love this truck! I've had a few minor problems with it - I had to change the water pump but that was something I did on my own at a cost of $70 for a remanufactured water pump and three hours of my time. Other than that - I'm very happy with my Yukon. For 6K, I'd say grab it and be sure to take care of it!
