I was at the supermarket today, buying food. :)
Anyways, I buy this big, 5 lb bag of mixed shredded cheese. I get home, open it up, grab a big old handful, toss it, and it taste like shit! I spit the nasty stuff out. I started reading the label, and its freaking lactose free cheese substitute. :bloated:

What next? They'll have alcohol-free beer, fat free chips and gluten free baking... with deference to all the lactose-intolerant, celiacs and vegans - anything that is a substitute isn't as good as the original eg margarine simply doesn't cut it and canola doesn't taste as good as olive oil...
And bacon fat to saute onion rings.... mmmmm
Damn it if I want to clog my arteries, choke my lungs, pickle my liver and drown in animal fat - damn it - at least I'll be enjoying it...

I think they've already tried all those here :p
I actually prefer Margarine to butter, but I'm willing to bet it's because I was raised with margarine. and very rarely had butter...

I know Heep I've seen all of them in my travels + all sorts of vegetarian substitutes (I had a friend who was a vegetarian... and another who was a food technologist - she was a nice girl but I could never take her out to dinner as I soon lost my appetite) eg....
Do you know how the fat-free Pringles work? They use this modified soy bean oil called Olestra which is approved only by the US FDA (I don't think anywhere in the world has approved it for use for human consumption). It works because your body can't absorb the stuff (which is similar to how Xenical works - it prevents your digestive system absorbing fat) and so your body gets rid of it...
Too much Olestra reputedly will give you the same effects of taking Xenical and not adhering to a low fat diet - which is uncontrolled motions and oily discharge... eeeewwwww!!!!
On the subject of Lactose... a significant proportion of the world's population is lactose-intolerant and this was borne out in the relief drops by Australian and New Zealand forces during the recent fighting in East Timor. The ANZACS dropped their normal relief supplies including milk powder biscuits to the starving - unfortunately most Timorese can't digest lactose and then had to put up with vomiting and diahorrea along with starvation until the relief supplies were topped up with rice instead.
That's even worse that Kris's lactose-free cheese substitute...

Fat Free
The days of watching everyone bite into crunchy Pringles crisps while you nibble on a lettuce leaf are over! Original Fat Free Pringles treat your taste buds as good as regular Pringles, but without the fat.

And there was some weight-loss thing around the same time, and in the commercials for it, one of the side effects that they read through real quick was "gas with oily discharge."

my mom is a celiac sprew (no clue how to spell it) but she cant eat wheat or gluten. So she goes to this special store and buys wheat free breads and cereal and waffles and soup.
if you want to get sick REAL quick go buy gluten free bread that stuff will Guarentee you to vomit within 3 minutes. But if u want nasty food go on a gluten/wheat free diet for 2 weeks..that is nasty shit right there

But it was lactose free chees substitute
So, it's a substitute for lactose free cheese? Or it is a lactose free cheese substitute?
One of my roommates is a vegitarian, and she eat's some nasty stuff...
I didn't think any companies were using the Olestra because it got such horrible press when it first came out... I know that if I picked up a package of something and it said Olestra anywhere on it, I'd drop it like a hot potato.
"Fat Free Pringles, made with Olestra! Now with 10% less anal leakage!"
I also heard somewhere that most cats are lactose intolerant...
