does anyone know what rotary engine, if any, from an rx7, can be put into an mr2?or what the best possible engine there is to put into an mr2 to make it rather swift? im talkin like a 94 model mr2, im not sure of the specific name sorry, but the ones that look like mini ferrari's. idm not sure if im right here, but if u put a rotary into an mr2, would it not be lighter and more powerful? which to me seems like great potential. any info or advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

we've had this discussion a few times, it would take a lot of money and a lot of fabrication (like... different rear half of the car). you could put a v8 in the back for a lot less of a headache.

well that sucks, and the v8 will add more weight will it not? the idea is more power with less weight and great tuning capabilities. as u can see though my knowledge is limited.
what exactly is it that makes this such a difficult task?
can u dirrect me to the thread where u already spoke about this?
gracious

the 32 valve northstar cadalic v8 would fit in with less modifacation and is still fairly light, the problem is, is that the rotary engine is not a transverse mounted engine meaning that you would have to find a transverse tranny(aka: a transaxle) or mount it in a non transverse position, also the mr2's are to narrow especially the first gen(84-89), so it would be cheaper and easier to take a gen 1 mr2 and throw a northstar into it(commonly known as the toystar), or even easier yet is throw a 2.0L turbo(3sgte) out of a newer mr2(mid 90's is best, because they have better trannys) and build yourself an uber light and torquey little beast(aka: mk 1.5), so basically its not worth the time and effort to brutally massacre a classic such as the mr2 for a silly little pipe dream, also if you were to modify the mr2 to put a rotary in then you would throw off the weight balance and it would handle like crap, so either northstar it or join the ranks of the 3sgte, but its totally up to you

someone has already done the whole cadillac v8 thing. and im thinking of using an mk2, not an mk1. and if i was to go to the trouble of putting a rotary in an mr2 i would go to the trouble of getting all new suspension and whatnot so the weight balance thing would not be an issue. and if that were true then wouldnt putting a bigger engine in the back throw the weight balance off and make it "handle like crap"? i think so.
if u got something constuctive to say then tell me, but dont just throw out the little info u have and say its a silly idea, when u clearly have no clue.
i could be a bit off on what i know, but ur clearly typing for the sake of typing.

actually i'm not typing for the sake of typing and i know a lot more then you think, first of all since the northstar is a transverse mounted engine so it would keep the stock center of gravity with minimal modifacation, but the rotary engine would have to be mounted back to front, which would involve serious modifacations, you would have to make the car wider and longer and reposition the rear wheels and suspension, completly throwing off the stock center of gravity and moving the wheel base making it wider and longer, so it would corner like a sack of potatoes, but like i said its up to you, it would be possible just very hard and time consuming and very very exspensive, so like i said its your choice
