No Sound on Dash Speakers-94 Grand Cherokee

Ever since my '94 Grand Cherokee was a couple of years old I realized there was no sound coming from the front left dash board speaker. I recently checked more closely and I don't hear sound coming from either the left or right dash speakers (sound in front only comes from the door speakers). Are these really speakers or just spaces in the dash for after-market speakers?

Your input would be appreciated as I'm about to replace the stereo and don't want to try to repair speakers that don't exist.

What kind of model is your Grand Cherokee? I have a 98 Laredo with NO dash speakers but the cut outs in the dash and the wires underneath are there. I think only the upscale Laredos with the Infinity Sound System and the Limiteds with the Infinity Sound System came with the dash speakers. I ordered speakers and put them in my Laredo and they work, but I also have an aftermarket CD player installed too. I don't know if it would work with a stock Jeep radio.

It is easy to see if you have the speakers or not. You can pry up the strip of plastic on the dash that covers the speakers and see if you even have speakers at all. Then you'll find out if they aren't working because they went out or because they aren't working because there isn't any there at all :banghead:

Sreilly77,
I have a Grand Cherokee Laredo. Based on your post it sounds like there are no speakers there. Thanks for the tip on prying up the speaker cover. I'll check it out.

I just noticed this as well. I have the Infinity Cd/cassette player swapped in now. Would it make a difference to even acquire those dash speakers? Somebody please let me know before I post a WTB for them?

well i got mine off of ebay and im waiting for them to come in. they should be in this week. when i install them, ill let you know how i make out.

but i must say, i did swap out the door speakers with the infinity speakers that the Limited Grand Cherokees have and they work with my aftermarket CD player and wow, what a difference.

so yeah when I get the speakers and put them in ill let you know how how much of a difference there is.

My radio was kaput when I got my Jeep so I installed an aftermarket and not long after ran across some old stereo speakers that had little tweeters in the boxes. So I stole the tweets and soldered them into the dash cutouts and

OH YES :grinyes:

Big difference.

I don't think I'm going to worry about it...

i got my speakers today and installed them. I had to do a little re-wiring though because the wires that were already there in the dash to plug in the speakers didn't work. so i connected the tweeters to the wires going into the back of the radio that worked the front left door speaker and the front right door speaker and it worked. WOW!!!! what a difference. i can't believe two little speakers make that much of a difference. it was WELL worth. the sound is AMAZING!
