1999 Taurus feels like it's slipping into neutral while driving

I bought my taurus about 2 mo's ago. The problem I'm having is that I can be driving it and all of a sudden it feels like I've put it in Neutral. I've also noticed it only does this when my speedometer gets stuck on zero. While it's coasting I keep trying to give it gas and finally the speedometer gets unstuck and my car runs fine. Anyone have any idea as to what might be causing this? Also let me add that it will do this at any given time. The car doesn't have to be hot and it doesn't do it "every" time I drive it. TIA

Welcome to the forum!
Sounds like you have a faulty Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). The PCM uses the VSS to vary solenoid pressure in the transmission as well as the adjust the shift schedule.

Thank you Rod. I will have someone check it out.
