Thats crap luck but it happens, you need to invest in an external hard drive or even a thumb drive for smaller important stuff, save it to that and backup anything you need. At least periodically burn it to cd or something.

Theres probably a recovery method but it might cost you some $$.

I could ship it to some place in Norway and They'll charge me 5k for it.

Learn from it.

Don't ignore antivirus expiry warnings - keep it up to date with defintions and do a full scan once a week. At worst, you can use the free online scanner from Trend, called HouseCall.

And BACKUP. Everything. Regularly.

related about some virus warnings.

don't some anti-virus progrms treat anything that tries to alter a directory as a virus?
i recall something about an *cough cough* xp2 patch that will bring up an virus message unless you rename it or put it in the right place.

In this folder, I had:

55.000 Guitarpro songs.
About 200 own (composed by me) Guitar pro songs.
All of my Reason work (professional music making/editing software).
10gb's of handpicked, sorted by make, model, years and engine, pictures of cars.
20gb's of Music. Mostly handpicked.
About 50-100 Pictures of my 2year relatonship girlfriend, which no one else has. Older pictures. Memories ffs.
Various stuff made by me and my friends, thousands of humour pics and videos.
All of my photoshop work.
Almost all of my school work, some private projects/books I was writing on.
Lists and memos of just important stuff.
HOURS AND HOURS AND DAYS AND WEEKS OF WORK.

*runs like his ass is on fire to back up all his stuff*

why not just run system restore next time? I do that everytime i get a virus that Mcaffe cant get rid of. Restore to a day or two before you got the virus and its gone

Because System Restore will definately not recover data from a drive that has died. All it will do is restore the OS to an earlier point in time.

This is why I welcome our new high capacity Blu-Ray overlords.
