Hard Shift from 1st to 2nd

I'm thinking about buying my sister's 95 SL2 automatic for my son's first car. The only thing wrong with it is a very hard shift from 1st to 2nd. The transmission was rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago. The car sits up in the garage, and is not being used. Mr brother -in-law drives it once a month around the block to keep the battery up.
Could the problem be due to not being driven much? Or, is this just wishful thinking?

I'm not sure but if it is a 5 speed, you might have a bent shifting rod. Or there could be a problem with the tranny. But I would check the simple things first so you don't have to put alot of money into it, if it doesn't need it. I would also try bleeding the slave cylinder and I think there is a block somewhere on the firewall that you need to bleed also but I am not 100% sure on that. If not it could be your clutch. Hopefully this helps.

could be a few things. leak/binding in dog clutch, malfunctioning 2nd shift solenoid, leak/binding in 2nd/reverse clutch piston, or valve body components binding. also a loose input shaft nut or input shaft hub seals leaking.
