98 Conti - False Door Ajar Warning Keeping Interior Lights On

I have a 1998 Lincoln Continental.

Every so often I get a false Door Ajar Warning. This keeps my interior lights on when I drive and when the car is off. It also does not allow me to lock the doors while driving.

I try opening all of the doors and shutting them again. Helped once but the rest of the times not.

The problem eventually goes away but comes back every couple of weeks.

Annoying, any suggestions?

I test drove a 97 LSC that the door ajar would not shut off on. I would check all the push in buttons around the doors that tells the CPU that the door is shut make sure they are all moving properly. If that doesn't work I would think you would have to bring it to the stealer I mean dealer.

Ditto what zolemite says.. one of the door pins needs cleaning / lube.
This has been discussed many times in all the Lincoln forums. :)

Their on the Latch Assembly, inside the doors.

Some folks found that the latch itself wasn't rotating fully from stop to stop, therefor not hitting the electrical switch properly. In these cases they fixed the problem by cleaning / lubricating the latch fork and pivot.

dude i had this problem, all you need to do is get some wd40 and spray it on the latching mechanism open and close door about 5 time and repeat once do each door like that and the problem will go away simple fix i didn't believe it at first,
peace.

I too have had the door ajar sensor occur now and then, so I was avoiding opening the doors. It ended up staying on all the time so I pulled apart the door to get behind the panel because I thought that it was the opening and closing motor. Turns out the sensor is right where the door catch is. Just spray the WD40 from the outside. open and shut it, and its fixed! No need to open the door panels!

I know this sounds crazy, but spray the exterior key locks with WD-40
There is something in the lock mechanism that hangs and gives a false door ajar reading
