I acquired a buick 455 for a minimal trade. Would it be feasible to put this motor into my 1980 elcamino? I had a 229 stock with a 4 speed behind it. I decided I wanted bigger, but i don't know if this motor will work. If so, any reccomendations for a manual transmission to pair behind it? I know that i need to change all of my springs, and a arms to account for the extra weight, i have 10 sets of gears in the barn, one of which will be perfect i'm sure. But am I nuts for even thinking about dropping this motor in?

I've seen them swapped into late '70s Malibus, so I guess it is possible if you are handy enough and have good fabricating skills. The '80 probably has a computer, so if you want to keep that working and have your emissions compliant, you might need the "brain" from the Buick donor. You need to measure everything up too. Also the El Camino tends to be light in the rear and you're probably adding at least 250 lbs to the wrong end of the car, consider that too.

set the 455 in today, would work, but with all of the nessicary modifications i would need to make the bell housing fit, i've decided not to use the motor.
