91 Dynasty tensioner pulley broke off HELP!

So there I was, re-threading the darned belt after it came off the second time for my daughter. Got it all in place and was skinning up my knuckles to tweak the tensioner pulley down and back up into position, when - BANG!! - the bugger just sorta "snapped off". Not just the twirly-round pulley, but the whole assembly. Right off the side of the engine. Since it's kinda tight and dark and visibility is not the best, I can't actually see if something actually broke or if it just popped out of some sort of mount or what. My shop manual has a total of nada about this, apart from replacing the belt.
added: OK, I got some dinnner and blew off some steam, then went to re-check the mess . . . yup, it's bad-broke right off the bolt/shaft mounting it to the side of the engine. Right where you can't get any kind tool in there to do anything to or with it. Looks like this is going to be one of those "fun fixes" for me!
My question is this . . . has this ever happened to you and what, and how much pain and anguish, did it take to fix? I've rebuilt a couple of engines, do the majority of my own maintenance and repairs, and have a fair set of tools. Any constructive feedback and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all - I'm a new guy here, so this'll be a good indication of the caliber of knuckle-dragging car nuts like me that frequent this forum. I look forward to hearing from you and maybe just hangin' out here once in a while! Cheers!! Dan
