Alarm sensitivity

I just got a python alarm and its not very sensitive at all. I cant even set it off by shaking my car hard. The guy said i could bring it back in and get it adjusted, about how much time does that take?

it would'nt take anymore than an hour to do?
if you wanted to do it yourself just take off the plastic below the stering wheel and the alarm unit should have a screw slot you can adjust for how you would like the alarm to go off..

Yea, what they would have to do is take apart the console or whereever you had them put the alarm and get to the mechanism.

Then there is a little knob that usually takes a screw driver to turn that changes the sensitivitiy.

Maybe 1 to 2 hours.

Wrong, adjusting alarm sensitivity takes like 10 minutes if you know what the hell youre doing in most cases. Shaking your car will not set your alarm off. The shock sensor that monitors that picks up just what it monitors SHOCK! Not shaking. This is a common misconception of customers when they have an alarm installed. Shaking would be monitored by a Mercury switch. Try hitting your car with your hand open so you dont dent it on the pillars above your doors and next to your windsheild. You should be able to set it off or get a warning chirp without denting your car. Who installed your alarm?

Yeah i noticed that if i bang it ill set it off. One time i hard the alarm on and some kid wanted me to pop my hood, so i reached through the window and popped it... when i let it drop the alarm went off. Car toys installed the alarm. I think i can do it myself pretty fast if its under the steering wheel column, but i might just leave it how it is. Ill have to go check it out.

I got a button installed in mine so that I can either have the sensor on or off. Most of the time I have it off as when it’s on if someone parks next to me it goes off. Way too sensitive.

Apparently you can’t turn down the sensitivity on it  and even when it’s parked in our driveway (surrounded by trees) if the trees move, it sets the sensor off. It was driving me nuts so they installed a switch that can turn it on an off.

You can turn down the sensitiviy on your proximity sensor. The proximity sensor is usually placed in the center console of the car. It is about 2x3 inches. There are 2 black knobs on it. One knob controls the warning sound and the other knob controls the alarm sound. Alarm installers are supposed to tune the sensor to sound the warning sound(chirp) when a person gets near the car. The alarm sound(full blown headache) is supposed to go off when the theif reaches through the window of your car, when he breaks the field of the alarm sensor.

The problem with people's alarms going off all of the time is that window tint throws off the sensor by bouncing it back to soon. This usually only happens with metallic tint.

But I have a switch to turn my proximity sensor of also.

FREED0MFiST, the alarm installers should have installed a switch that makes the alarm go off when someone pops the hood. I would take your car back and make them do that.

I had an option between light flashes or the hood sensor. I got the light flashes so i could arm it without the noise going off, and still be sure its on. they said my python has a proximity sensor, but it never chirps or anything when i walk by.

Proximity sensor are extra. they don't come with an alarm system. It is a "plug n play" device.

What do you mean you had a choice? Both of those should be standard on the alarm. I would rather have it make a noise to let others know that I have an alarm(i actually have a voice module on mine). Getting the hood sensor is a great idea because if you don't have it, the theif could pop the hood cut the power to the alarm and no one would ever know you car was being stolen. Get the backup battery because you don't have the hood sensor.

One guy came into our local custom car shop and wanted an alarm with the pager system. But he didn't want any speaker. He wanted to catch the guys stealing his car in the act. Now that's balls.

Not sure then because when I took it to the people who installed it they said that the sensitivity couldn’t be turned down so they installed that switch instead. It’s got a shock sensor in the alarm as well so I figure that’s enough. Don’t need the proximity sensor to be on as well.

How much is the proximity sensor? I just went out and pounded on my car and the warning went off, so that seems fairly sensitve. I use the noise when im in a parking lot, but when im in my drive i do silent, cause i always come home late and my nieghbors bitch about the stupidest things. They prob cant even hear it... but wait until i get my tanabe racing medallion exaust and redline it up my street at 3am mwahahaha... j/k

I think it costs around $75- $120........not sure........can't remember.

I can find out in a few days though.

Ah, I dream of the days when I get my Tanabe Super Racing Medalion Exhaust System. Once my CAI comes in, I'm ordering the Tanabe system.

oh darn. I wonder if the black widow alarm system will work in cooperation with my viper system.

Ha Ha. I will then have 2 different alarm remotes that I have to arm when I get out of my car. This would be great. lol

actually i kinda like the black widdow...just the imature kids at my school kinda mess it up...they go up to it and kick the tire and the alarm goes off....i have a battery in the dash and its dead now cause of them and i also have 2 sirens in my car... if i had electiric windows i could put ceonsors in it so when i left my windows down it would lock the doors and wind the windows up and the alarm would go off.

when ur alarm goes off do you get the generic alarm sound or does it give you a steady or constant beep of the horn?

how can you set it up so ur windows go up?

If you get your tanabe system before me, let me know how it sounds. I just got $270 from insurance company to fix my window... of course ill go get that done ;) so that, plus i get paid tommorow so i might order the tanabe this weekend. Not sure if i want to get the exaust, or like pullies, short throw shifter and something else small (like proximity sensor), or this datsun 280z for $500.... i would definitly get the datsun if my parents would let me.

Fly Rice Racer

That would be cool to get a datsun.

It will be a while for me(maybe a month) to get the exhaust. I get paid next wednesday and half of that has to go to credit card payment that I bought my intake with and the other has to be saved up for my next months car payment.

So you let me know how it sounds if you get it first and i'll do the same.

Yeah i want the datsun because since i could take the automotive class next semester because counsels screwed up my schedule... hes letting me and my friend take independant study after school. So basically i have a huge garage with every tool i need to play with for half the school year. Figured a datsun would be fun, and we have like 8 back in the lot. Too bad the only one with a working engine they took out to put in a huge ford truck or something (wtf?!?). guess the advanced students are getting bored.
