Moving along, this is my brother's friend, he's like 14 I think. Anyways, his older brother has an Integra thats "fast" (my N/A Eclipse beat it), and I was really hoping he'd teach his brother atleast SOMETHING. Now I know the older brother isn't exactly open to the real world of cars considering he's trying to mod his Integra GS, point is, I was really hoping he'd pass on some kind of common sense to his brother. Anyways, here's the convo between me and the little shithead.

Just using this as a prime example of Ricerism that's seems to be shared with most kids and the people who they "learn" these things from. The youth of today wanting to be big time ricers is a sad thing indeed. When I was that age I was riding my skateboard and didn't even pretend to know a damn thing about cars. What I knew about came from real world experiences from watching my older brothers etc. I never took part though. I just did my own thing. I was in my twenties and actually did have a ricey looking (lime green crx) car but paid less for it and then de-riced it for the most part. It was nice having a weekend cruiser but with the amount of rice it just isn't worth the headache. Whenever I see a ricer I just shake my head. And if some dumbass white dude with his hat on sideways leaning so far back in the seat that you can barely see him cuts me off he better keep moving. I swear if some ricer ever hits one of my cars I'm going to smack the shit out of them first then get their information.

You know what I've noticed, alot of the ones driving the bad ones always have a hat on backwards and that irks me. I always where my hat backyards, its a habit from my baseball days. Now I'm all self-conscious about it because I don't want to be part of the stereotype, lol

we have a kid in my town here that talks about how fast his car is and stuff, yet it always seems to be broken. I have never seen him drive his grand prix that he got for $25 because it had a bad bearing in the tire. Obviously there was more wrong with it.:shakehead

I think a part of the problem is that kids want instant recognition. What do real car enthusiast respect? Mechanical knowledge and ability, and good driving skills. What do all these things have in common: a large investment in terms of time, money and effort.

What's the easy path? Throwing on some chrome wheels, a noisy axleback exhaust, and just flooring the gas pedal and thinking they are "a fast driver."

Another thing adding to the problem is the media exploitation of the "car culture." Look at the F&F movies and EA's recent releases of the NFS series.
All poor representations of the car enthusiast's world, but popular none the less.

My take on it is this: If they are lacking in knowledge, I try to educate ricers when I get the chance. I've learned a lot about cars and driving technique, but I know that I will always need to be learning more. A serious car enthusiast always wants the increase thier knowledge and ability.

Ricers on the other hand will try to come off like they know it all, again, because they want instant recognition. If they aren't interesting in being serious, I pay them no mind.

But I am not sure if anyone addressed this or not but i am going to. Double clutching isn't hitting the clutch twice per say. It's used mainly used in large trucks to syncornize gears. Clutch out of gear go to neutral to raise RPMS for downshift let them fall for upshift then clutch into the higher or lower gear respectively. Really your matching road and engine speed. That was some technical food for thought.
Now onto the "ricers" I honestly have to say I love the newer Evos. They drive nice and have decent interiors from the factory. I'd want more then stock performance out of it but, the cops would be all over me because of the bad driving skills of the types that drive the car. I'll be sticking to american muscle as an alternative ride for the weekend cruiser until the ricer fad goes away if it ever does. Also I'd have a 1 ton dually that's faster then most intergra.

Yeah I know I'd put them in the ricer catagorey as well. Although my buddy with dodge truck bought one with the sole purpose of 2L Kenne Bell Blower, Rebuilt with race component 5 Speed, 4.30 gears, .571 cam, obviously full exhaust with electronic exhaust cut off, and dynotuning in mind. With the street tune ran 11.5s saturday all day on Micket T's Et Street Radials. Was going conservatively being i didnt trailer the car to the track.

Even if they keep it stock, its still a high 12 second car, which is faster then most things on the street.

People who dont know stuff about cars usually wont spend more money on the svt just because its faster, they could care less, hence why most people buy v6 stangs.

Seems like ALOT of people my age are only interested with going fast in straight lines, naturally so are ricers, so sadly enough I know quite a few of them, but surprisingly some of them will actually sit down and have a good conversation to learn a thing or 2 just because they look up to the guys with nicer cars.

Some of the coolest car people I've ever met are drifters and those SCCA type of people because that sort of motorsport is probably the hardest for ricers to get into. So I can't wait until I get a car that I can use to inch my way into that niche.

the reason you dont see many ricers at scca events is because you need to have an understanding about your car, know how to drive and know that it takes practice to be good at it. most ricers if they even try will notice how bad they do, make up some outlandish excuse and then never go again.

Eeeeeeeeeeeexactly. And I don't just mean cool because they know their shit, but cool because most of them are willing too give out some pointers and help a person in need. When I wrecked my car and needed new wheels, a fellow drifter of my roommate who's also a drifter, sold me these 300ZX wheels for $200 and 2 of the tires still had good tread left.
