93 trooper weird tranny slipping problem

Hello~

I've got a '93 trooper and the transmission is slipping out when I come to a stop. The problem appears to happen randomly. We just relocated to a new state, and I left my old mechanic (who I trusted completely) behind. I took it in, and was told my force motor control solenoid was going out. It was replaced, and we thought we'd be all set, but the problem has not gone away, but the frequency has diminished. Any ideas? I was told the transmission itself looked fine.

can you call your old trusty mechanic for his long-distant opinion, since he has some history on the vehicle?

i can tell you that slipping is something to get on, because it only leads to more problems. did the current shop mention the condition of the fluid and/or filter. i assume they changed both, which would be the first step.

AND for the record, how many miles on the odometer? thanx

I've already called my old mechanic, but fortunately (unfortunately?), my trooper had never had a transmission problem prior to this, so he couldn't do more than verify the code that the new guy said he got from the diagnostic. And, for the record I've got 147,000 miles on it... & it's been a terrific vehicle up to this point for us.

The new guy checked to make sure I didn't have any metal in the pan prior to replacing the solenoid and replaced the fluid/filter.

The force motor solenoid is a variable position solenoid whose plunger moves in relation to the current received from the TCM (http://library.alldatapro.com/alldata/LIB~C20550~R0~OD~N/0/41746052/56622331/56622425/56622426/34853741/34860071/56218937/83370650). The TCM uses the force motor solenoid to control line pressure. By changing the line pressure, the TCM controls gear shifts. The TCM determines the proper gear by using electronic inputs to read engine load, engine speed, and vehicle speed. As operating conditions change, the TCM changes the plunger's position by varying the amount of current (amperage) sent through the solenoid.

Line pressure can vary from less than 50 psi to more than 200 psi. The line pressure varies inversely to the amount of current. High current causes low pressure and low current causes high pressure.

In the event of an electrical failure, the force motor solenoid is turned off, allowing maximum fluid pressure.
