What is the most over-spec'd car?

I just cant think of any other car that could be considered "over spec'd" than the Passat W8.

4.0L W8
270 hp @ 6000 rpm/273 lb-ft @ 2750 rpm
5 speed auto
~ $37,000

For an 4.0 8 cyl, that not alot of power. But its kind of overkill for a Passat IMO. What other cars can anyone think of that is along these lines?

NZ$99,990 for the sedan and $102,990 for the wagon made the W8 awesome value though...

Most overspecced car is hard though, but I think the current Nissan Primera is a shitload too complex for a midsizer. So is the Citroen C4.

I always thought the RX8 was pretty over hyped. It really is not fast by anybody's definition, it gets dismal fuel economy, and even handles below many expectations. For the price there are many better cars in the same class. One really has to be in love with the simple fact of owning a rotary motor to buy one of those cars.

it out laps the new mustang and costs the same price. it way not be very fast but its not slow.

if you ask me, the new charger is very over hyped, the s2000 is as well, even though they are really nice, it doesnt justify the 35k price.

How is the S2000 hyped but the RX8 isn't? The S2000 is faster than the RX8 in all ways and is in the same class. Outlapping a mustang GT in a true sports car is not hard to believe, the fact that the mustang is even a threat to the RX8 around the track is an embarassment. Also, why does a tiny rotary with lack luster performance manage to get worse gas mileage than the mustang GTs 315 HP motor?

My vote goes to the taureg...I heard they had a bunch of extra crap added to them...

Bugatti veyron has a lot of extras...like a horsepower gauge lol...If the car didn't cost so much and have as much power, I'm sure journalists would have called that feature ricey or tacky...

Most of the stuff they added to the Touareg is stuff that makes it one of the best off-road cars in the world though. Though most will never use it...

I wager the Dodge Caliber SRT-4 for $22,000, with 300hp and 280lbs torque going through only the front wheels of a 3000lb compact wagon: I don't think even an LSD plus front sway bar will save you from overly under steering while taking a high speed turning and spinning off the road.

I am sure it will still be a blast to drive though.

how is that over specd?

according to old maths, anything over 250bhp driving front wheels only is going to be compromised.

any kind of ugly piece of crap like the caliper that has 300hp is over spec'd.

well if we are just talking engine output in a fwd...

saab 93 viggen

i was thinking overspecd meant it had too many options, which is listed on a spec sheet...

or maybe you take it into consideration how much you more you can make a car cost by options?

example: fully optioned Mini Cooper Works is £30,000+
fully optioned A Klass Mercedes is £35,000+

to those two, I don't know what else to say except, wtf?

who in their right mind would buy a fully optined A-Klass over a BMW 330i?

is350 is right around that price too right? or is it closer to 40k?

As I was reading over this (very interesting) thread, I kept thinking that everyone still has a very different idea of what "over spec'd" means. If it means being able to specify ALOT of options within a given price range, one car immediately jumps to my mind:

The ill-fated Volkswagen Phaeton.

This car will always stand out as the "working man's Bentley" in my mind.

Then again, has production of this officially ceased? In that case, at least it WAS the most overspec'd car.

Apologies in advance if I have misunderstood the topic.:icon16:

One more thing... If "overspec'd" means greatest engine output per dollar, or the amount of overall performance given for a specific price, the C6 Z06 would have to be a contender (even though it's still gawd awful expensive).

Seems I need to clarify what I meant. By "Overspecced" I meant cars that have more performance than they should rightfully have. The Passat W8 (tangent, "Dub8" not W8 sounds cool to me) was a good example.

But I like seeing people classify "overspecced" in their own ways. So basically just keep on posting what is in your opinion overspecced.

you could also consider an evo or sti, not because of engine output or hp/liter or options, but because if you look at what they are in reality...an impreza and lancer which are both about 1/4 to 1/2 as expensive as the sti/evo...that's a serious markup in price and a seriously increase in specs...overspecd!!!! :grinno: I dunno...

though I guess you could do that with the mustang and the cobra...or gt500...

Audi Q7 V12 Biturbo TDI

500hp, 738 lb-ft

Also the Mercedes R63 AMG, which is essentially a 500hp minivan.
