on the 2000 taurus, is the flex fuel engine any good? is it more prone to problems if you are only going to use gas anyway? is it the same vulcan engine but modified for ethanol?

There is no difference in the mechanical portion of the engine. The difference is in the fuel ines, sensors and computer parameters. Running straight unleaded fuel is no problem in these. We have about 75 of them and run strictly unleaded fuel.

There have also been some studies that show that even though you get the same power from E85 fuel, you get less miles to the gallon. From what I have read, this can be from 1 to 5 miles less to the gallon, not to mention it is usually more expensive than regular unleaded.

In Las Vegas E-85 is readily available. I saw it yesterday for $2.25, about a dime cheaper than regular 87 octane. The E-85 octane rating on the pump was 105.
