I have a strange fan like noise coming from my mid dash. This just started yesturday . It runs even when the key is not in the ignition. It was still running when I got in my car this morning.I have played with all my buttons and can't figure out where it is coming from or why. When I push the reset on the heater/air panel another fan kicks on even when the car is not on as well. What is going on? Is my lil baby posessed? :screwy: or have I gone nutts? I need help figuring this out.

I also have a '97 528 and have periodically heard that noise (even after car is shut off and key is out of ignition). It has had no impact to my battery or otherwise. The other button you mention, I believe is the one that warms the car even when not running. I'm not an expert in repairs, but am a long time Beemer owner.

Rob

Now if someone can help me with my heater A/C fan question......

Thank you soooo much. So did you ever have it looked at or did you just leave it and it went away on it's own and comes back now and then?

Now I went out to my car to fiddle with it again and the reset is not turning on like it was before. Grrrrrrrr. Oh well the car runs absolutley fantastic though. So should I just ignore it or have my Beemer guy look at it?

Well if the reset isn't coming on either-and you have a beemer guy you trust, you could have him look at it. I wouldn't feel like I needed to rush it right over to him though. I never did anything with mine-and it is still ok-and I still have the original battery too. I think I've only played with that REST button once, and never used it since.

BTW-Happy belated B'day, I read your other post after I sent the earlier message.

thank you for putting me at ease. My main concern was draining the battery. then again the fan did not sound any bigger than a the one in my laptop.LOL not much volotage there huh? I figured the inly way it would drain my battery is if I were to leave it parked for a week. Since I drive it every day and recharge the battery evertime I drive I should have no worries. FANTASTIC!!!!!

Thank you very much for the birthday wishes. 33 isn't so bad.

So I guess we have the same car. I have only been a beemer owner for a little over 2 weeks now. I lover her soooo much. She is in such mint condition. I think a lil old lady must have owned it. It is soo clean.

how do you like yours? any tips or any little gadgets on my car I should know about? Any lil tricks? The manual does not tell you everything.:)

I was repying to you and then work got in the way, so I lost what I had typed:banghead: ..............Anyway I'll try to recreate it. I bought mine when it was 2 yrs old w/30K miles on it from a private party. It now has 175K miles and still drives and rides solid. Mine is silver too with black interior. It is beginning to have some issues and so I'm looking to replace it with an '04 545.

Best recommendation I'd have is to find a local independent BMW mechanic-preferably through a recommendation from another BMW owner. Not that you'll need him a lot but it is great to have someone you can bring your car to that you trust!

Your car has a lot of life left to it, enjoy! 33 is a great age!!!!!!!!

I am very fortunate to have 20 year friendship with a certified BMW mechanic.
He said he will stop by my work and take a lok at it while I am working. LOL Wow who gets to say that? I just don't want to make a habit of bugging him with every little thing.:iceslolan

Thank you BMW_LVR.

So what type of issues sre you encountering? I bought mine @136,000 miles.

Just curious as to what you are going through with yours.

I know you are working so I don't expect immediate response :iceslolan

I just happen to have all my work done for the day so I am quite bored.

Sorry, went away on vacation and just got back! Wish I was still away....Really just wear and tear but they add up! Replaced belts;power steering hoses; wheel bushing; alternator; front struts;I also replaced the final stage unit of the heating/cooling system for the second time. My mechanic also recommends replacing lower control arms and some other suspension items. It is just time where you decide about how much you want to keep putting into the car
