Baja Ghia started

This is a tamiya ghia I just started in a "Baja" style.
This will represent something you would see in the desert or driving around California or Arizona.
I just built most the cage,I need to scratch build the beam and then tie it
I will probably ditch the rear portion and re-do it because the shocks are gonna mount up inside.
Anyway,not too much done yet.
I will be making my own rear wide 5 wheels too.
Hope you like the idea.

Thanks,I try.
The rear wheels I made from some revell centerlines and drilled them
The fronts are from a way out of production Burago dakar kit.
My friend Jake is gonna cast the wheels and tires, and I am gonna master some like the rear ones for him to cast as well.
I hope this car ends up looking decent? Kind of a hard body style to retain panels on.

Email me off line and I will point you in all the right directions.
I don't know how the moderators are about giving links out?
The centerline revell wheels come from the 69 dodge super bee that I think is currently out?
I used a fujimi 356 porsche wheel to get the pattern.
Many things we use are cast in resin or found in other kits.
The 5 car will be fun and a class 1 will be killer.
2 guys in my other group have built class 1's.
I plans to do a class 12 buggy next as my first buggy.
Cv boots.the best things I have found are lear electrical connector seals that are used on GM cars and come in many colors.
If doing a 5/1600 car? I just mastered a body for a guy based on the revell kit.
Hope to see you build a desert rig.
I know not everyone gets it,but it does not keep me from building them.LOL!

Cool progress.
What size styrene are you using for your roll-cage?
Escort--- YGM
I use mostly .060" and .080"
Mostly I use what I think looks right and try to keep it somewhat near scale.
Then I will use styrene sheet for brackets and smaller rod for things here and there.
The beam will be .093" tubing most likely.
I better get more done this week.
I should be doing the beam and front cage work this weekend.
Thanks for the interest guys.

Great idea that suits the Karmenn Ghia body perfectly - now you need a Porsche Turbo strapped on the back !!????

That's the kind of idea I like
I also have the idea of building an Offroad aircooled Vw but on a 1302 Beetle. It won't be as high as yours but you would be able to have fun with it. Not on sand, here in Belgium it's not sand but mud
Also, like all Vw lovers, seeing a Karmann Ghia on AF is always a pleasure, they are so rare here. You did a very good job so far and I'm really impatient to see some progress.

Thanks for the nice comments guys.
Today, I built the front beam and tied it in to the main cage.
I still need add alot to it.
I also made a front bumper and mounted it.
In the rear,I re-did the rear most hoop and cut out the fender well area for shocks to go through.
The next step is to make front arms and shock mounts, then it's to the back of the chassis.

Hey guys,
I have had this ghia project stalled.
I just finished the motor and have the body painted.
The chassis is only about 60% done.
Here are my latest pics.
Thanks for looking.
