Ford Explorer or Jeep Grand Cherokee? Or other

Iam lookin for for an SUV, don't need it too big, just somethin to haul a family of 4. Me and my stepson go fishing one of the places Id like to go to is off the road, nothin serious just some dirt and grass. So I was thinkin 95-99 explorer or Jeep Grand Cherokee. Which would you choose? Why? Which model? Engine? Any other suggestions? Price 4500 maybe 5000.

Me personally you cant go wrong with either or but if i had to choose it would be the Grand Cherokee. As far as engines go you cant go wrong with a I6 4.0 there bullet proof or if you want more power you could a 5.2 or 4.7 V8 depending on year model and for price you can get a good jeep for 5000 you should go to Autotrader.com

Cant go wrong with either. both good SUVs in their class. both have two v8 options and a v6. check if the trannys been replaced on the jeep GC. chevy blazer could fit the bill though no v8, back seats are like a park bench and only so-so quality if you ask me.
